What are the best features of CHB? What are the worst?

The tabs for things like discussion, post fight, article... are completely unnecessary and an eyesore. The main boxing page is dead, because it's just a stream of news articles that often don't spark comments, but it's then a pain to find the actual threads in among the ton of variously coloured bookmarks.

I'm guessing that this is a set feature of the software, and thus impossible to remove, but if not then I'd be amazed if anyone would oppose binning it.

The entire idea of the tags (which I need to update since the new theme - that's my bad, forgot this weekend) are designed to help you find content easily. RBR's can be filtered (by pressing the tag - I will fix this tonight), same with news/articles. I had hoped that having the news articles come into the main boxing forum would help boost activity. Should I send it back to a separate forum or something?

I was under the impression that most people liked the tags and found it useful. I can remove them all, if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that aussie discussion has improved considerably since then.

There's only so much I can do to try and improve the quantity and quality of boxing discussion here, so any ideas I'm missing, or if my ideas are badly off the mark - i do need this feedback from everyone

Maybe it's just me then. I think a tag for RBR's is a good idea, I just don't see the benefit of a pre-fight discussion tab, a discussion tab, a post fight tab etc etc. It clutters things. A tab for RBR is a good idea, and maybe one more for things that are clearly distinct from the usual activity.

I think the news does need to be separate, simply because it's not a super high traffic forum, and posters tend to post key news anyway. If Loma signed to fight Garcia, there's no way that story with a link would not get posted by a member anyway. So the stream of news articles just pushes regular threads down. That said, I can see why the change was made, as the separate news section did seem ignored.

Yeah, it's a damned if I do, damned if I don't situation. I added all the tags to try and make everything more neatly organised. Same with requiring all new threads to have one. I want to do similar for lounge as well - if I fancied talking games, I can just select games tab, or sports tab.

I've seen more extreme examples on other forums, some I like, some I don't. But the question is if it's suitable for CHB. Problem is, I can't just ask before I do it as 1. it's not easy to explain something without giving a working demonstration, 2. people are naturally resistant to change, and tend to just reject any new ideas out of hand. It's easier to do it, let them get used to it, and then appreciate the new benefits - tweaking at that point.

There's nothing really stopping me from turning the news feed off, although it'd be a bit of a shame as they reached out to me in order to do it, and we've had that relationship for a few years. TBH, once I can figure out the new content portal, it may not matter anyway. I've got a few work projects on that is sucking my time, but once that's over, I can start moving that forward again.

Is there a way of adding an X to these so they can be closed? They are taking up a fair bit of screen estate and even if I was interested I wouldn't need to keep having visibility of this. It would be good to be able to dismiss these notifications when read/irrelevant. I know it's do-able on some fora because I do it.

 What can I tell you. I have no interest in boxing. Why the fuck would I get involved in predicting stuff involving people I'm barely aware of doing something I don't even watch. :think
How did you even find this place? tbf i barely watch it much any more anyway, not done so for years. Still top 3 in prediction league though :deal

Notices at the top - they're dismissable now anyway :)

 I came here via ESB and I didn't talk watch or post about boxing there either. But I suppose that just rolls the question back to the mid-00s, asking how I found that place. The answer to that is there was a poster on there known and well-regarded by many - Fighting Weight - who was a close friend of mine for many years IRL. He told me of the Lounge there and told me to get my arse on there because I'd love it.

He was right - until it turned to shite. Then, like many others, I found myself migrating here when they started doing stupid shit, like deleting the pictures thread. Fighting Weight didn't come though, he died in 2011, barely past 40, of a heart attack. :mad

Anyway, thanks for making them click-bye-bye-able, now. :good

Yeah I get that mate, and you're right about change. I've opposed pretty much every change since being told I had to leave nursery and begin school. Apparently at the end of the first week I said something like "That was fine, dunno why everyone said it was for big boys, but I'm looking forward to going back to nursery"...poor young me thought school was just a one off, one week deal.

The site is MILES better than ever before in every other way, and it's one of those things where people would only realise how much better than old ESB etc in terms of usability etc, if they had to go back to using that format for a week or so now. The way you can use gifs, add in images etc...save drafts....it's on a different planet to the forums we used for years.
