I remember having to use the internet sparingly because it cost the same as a phone call and if anybody was online the phone couldn't be used.

Kazaa for downloading music which could take hours for a 3 or 4 MB song, and sometimes at the end you'd find it was a remix and have to try again. That was probably 2002-ish. Ebay was used a lot in our house, I can't remember any other uses for the internet at the time. I had MSN messenger but wasn't really into it

About the time I turned 18 in 2005 I started playing Halo 2 online. The game would lag like mad if someone was on the computer downstairs but it was so fun it felt like dying and going to heaven. I remember most games ending in extended voice/text message arguments with people and inevitable 1v1's to settle it. Within a couple of years I was using Myspace, Youtube and a competitive Halo forum and my internet use hasn't significantly changed since then.

Discovering ESB in 08 or 09 was great, I felt like I'd found my spiritual home

I'm remember downloading loads of photos of celebrity nudes.

So dumb.

I remember discovering boxing.com and joining their forum then finding ESB in like 2001 and finding most of you fuckers there.
I can beat that. I had 2 computers. The one had a modem but only a 16 color graphics card. The other had a legit graphics card but no modem and no I couldn't just swap parts. So I'd use the one with the modem to download the nudes, save them too a floppy and look at them on the one with the better graphics card.

How about before all these tube sites like pornhub and xvideos when you had to spank it to 15 second porn clips.

I remember it very well. I used to just sit there and watch all the music and porn downloading through emule on my 56k connection. I remember getting booted when someone called if I'd forgotten to turn call waiting off. I remember using netscape and taking literal minutes to load pages with more than one or two heavily compressed images.

My earliest memories of the internet though, we're from when I was really young, must've been late 80s or very early 90s. My dad was using a program that looked something like norton commander, and it would automatically scroll through, highlighting a bunch of seemingly random number strings, it'd sit there for a few minutes run some kind of script, then move to the next one. I asked my dad what it was doing, he said it was calling other computers on the phone and asking them if they had certain files. He was fucking pirating.

I still remember how happy I was when we got our first computer...that AOL sign in sound was like angels singing.

I met so many girls on AOL chat in my teens...those were the days.

All my high school days were msn messenger, runescape and limewire
remember having dial up for several months before we got broadband, my mum didnt really see the point of a computer so with dial up id be on for 10mins (enough to load up a couple of webpages) and then she'd tell me to get off the phone line, broadband wasnt much better as she'd limit to an hour a day, considering i was 15-16 it was abit bullshit but very wrongly she didnt think computers were going anywhere
when i could afford my own laptop at 17 thats when my eyes opened! no more getting porn pics via bluetooth from my mates phones
