Might be interesting to see what peoples day to day is kinda like as a rolling theme..We might find some people actually have some interesting work days.

So, I suggest we break the day into halves and share quick synopsis of that day, and we can keep this going for a while (unless your workday is exactly the same).

So. E.g (Not my day btw)

Morning: got to work at 9, got coffee, had a meeting about whatever ( any interesting or funny stuff share), then went to my desk and worked on (insert some interesting or boring stuff).

Afternoon: Had an argument with a supplier over whatever ( give anecdote), then sat at computer checking out my fantasy baseball team ( or whatever)..

My hope is that over a course of time we find out some interesting stuff about the jobs you guys do and maybe have a laugh along the way.

Now, some interesting cunt get the ball rolling for us...Try make it today's or yesterday's day of work.l, keep it current.

Read my kindle for a couple of hours, checked in here a couple of times.

In between that, arranged a response for a couple of domestic violence calls, a non-fatal traffic accident involving a drunk driver, and sent a police car to the home of a woman who came home and found that her daughter had had a seizure and died. Also took a call about a possible sighting of a guy who has been on the run for a couple of days after accidentally running over and killing a homeless man.

Also got into a somewhat heated argument with my coworker over which local bakery is best.

About to start reading "The Wheel of Time", fiiiiiinally.

I'm retired but have been busy as all get out today. I got up early-----5:30 a.m. and made the coffee then went out and got my coals going so I could smoke 11 lbs. of pork belly I've been marinating in my fridge for a week to make some bacon.

Then got inside and got things going with a 4 gallon pot of chicken/sausage/okra gumbo, large container of potato salad and cooked 5 lbs. of rice for the darts final tournament tomorrow night at a friends bar. There will be about 100 people in attendance and I supply the eats and he puts out 2 kegs of beer, all free for the taking.

It is now just shy of 11 a.m. and this is my first real break where I can actually try to cool off and relax a bit. I still have to pick the chicken off the bones and discard them so the gumbo will have no bones in it for people to deal with.

Was off for the last two weeks as the place goes on a shutdown in the summer. Today was my first day back and I did next to fuck all. It was actually torture and was on the verge of finishing early shit loads of times but I stuck it out. The first day after the holidays are always like that and you'd probably be better off just taking it off.

You're cool as hell, Gumbo. But sometimes I read posts like this about your lifestyle and day to day schedule, and for a minute I fuckin' hate you.:thumbsup

Your time will come when you are retired and your days are your own to do what you please-------or at least things you want to do as the need arises.

Believe me, not all the things I do are what I want to do, but need to do in order to keep things up around the house as far as maintaining things. Some of it can be pure drudgery at times.

I’d give a kidney to be able to read The Wheel of Time for the first time again. Three times now I’ve read the series.

Enjoy. It’s a slog at times but by fuck it’s worth it.

I have no clue what it's about, no clue about any of the world or the lore, no clue about any of the characters.

All I know about it is that:

* It's a fantasy classic that every geek should read at some point in his or her life

* I've been meaning to read it forever and never gotten around to it

* There's a TV series coming that is set in that world

* My girlfriend has read them all and loves them, and I am sick of her making fun of me for calling myself a book reader and high fantasy fan even though I have never read the Wheel of Time. I can't be putting on the first episode of the TV series in a few months and constantly asking her "who's that?" "what does that mean?" "who are these guys?" "wait - they can do that???" and not having any opinion on casting choices, script decisions etc.

Up at 0615 showered, ready, made lunches and out the door for 7am.

740 I sat at my desk.

740- 915: I started by making tea and porridge. Then browsed here for while then checked and responded to multiple emails while checking on here in between. Also went to the toilet for 15 mins in there where I read a couple of Arsenal blogs.

915-930: short stand up meeting with one of my teams. I don't really contribute. Just listen in for any issues that might need intervention/escalation

930-10: I actually went to Dunkin Donuts to get a few dozen donuts for the department as we just had a very successful project go-live last week. Not something I'd normally do (people get paid to work) but this was a particularly troublesome project for specific reasons that people done well to work around so i thought it merited recognition.

10-1130: Browsing on here whilst responding to a couple of emails, people stopping by my office for various things, had a good conversation with one of my guys who has an idea he wants to try so we talked it through and another 15 minute meeting to give a twice weekly update on various projects to a wider, less involved audience (I find people like to know what's going on in the company even if they're not involved so this serves that).

1130-1: Went for a haircut and a walk.

1-now: Ate my lunch and posted a few time on here.

Rest of day (until 4pm): I have one meeting at 3-4 and between then I need to create a Business Plan for a new initiative I'm starting for the company. This will take a few days to complete.

That's pretty typical. I usually have more meetings but deliberately keep Monday's light. I usually walk much further too but needed a haircut.

EDIT: A lot of my time is consumed by people coming to me with questions/information I need input on than is represented there, actually. That kinda stuff takes up most of my time.

Got in early today so I could show my completed combat robot to a couple of interested co-workers (they've been following my progress).

Clocked in and answered a few emails from Casinos regarding open issues I am working on.

Shot the shit with my cubicle neighbor about some crap that is happening with one of our products. Posted a couple times on Reddit and here. Shopped for a moment for some new robot wheels (the ones I have on it currently are a little bit too small).

I'm posting this now, and right after I'm going to call the IT office of one of the Casino's we have a contract with to try and resolve one of their compliance software issues (this is my primary job). After that... lunch.

Nothing today as I'm on paternity, I did nip in last week to have a chat with my line manager, who is a brilliant boss btw, to hand my notice in. Too bad the prick above him is a monumental retard who has ruined our department to placate the young women on sales and CS.

Kinda sounds like my day. I generally arse about on Monday, ease myself into the week if I can.

Anyway.

Got into work at the leisurely time of 9am. Couple of my project wound down in the last few weeks, so no biggie.

Turned on laptop, checked emails (literally only had 1, some sort of record). General chit chat to those nearest me for 5-10 mins about weekend.

Into a team meeting about said job that's winding down ( particularly for me). It was an M&E design for the offices of a well known search engine. My part was to do with the basement/plantroom/parking levels.

Went for coffee with mate at 10. Small bit of paperwork on said project up until 12 with a smattering of reading online newspaper/NFL news/ browsing here.

Lunch at 12.30

1.30 - COB: Basically have an on going issue with a previous project that needed resolving. Client is saying their internal doors of their new office is slamming due to pressuriataion problems due to our mech vent design. I got a fingerprint report done recently, and basically spent 2 hours putting together an email pointing out how that is impossible based on the report.

Sent that.

Helped one of the juniors for 30 mins on a project she is working on, basically helped size some equipment and plant. Showed her the calcs/ spreadsheets/ tools to use.

So basically 3 hrs of actual work.

As I said, ease myself in.

I'm on holiday, woke up and took the dog for a walk, fed the cats and the dog then had breakfast, sipped on coffee for about 4hours while casting YouTube on the TV (my new favourite thing) walked dog again then watched YouTube for about 4hours while sipping beer, trimmed the claws on the cats and the dog, brushed the dogs fur on and off for a few hours (he's got a lot of fur) brushed his teeth aswell, got in the shower and took the dog for a longer walk ending in the dog enclosure to play with some other dogs, went to store bought lots of TV dinners, bread and milk, ate, had a beer, then some coffee and chocolate while chilling on the couch watching QI, then another beer, still on the couch watching law and order SVU reruns it's a great show actually.
