Looooooong way to go and a massive field of Democrats with no clear frontrunner.

Who do you see being the leading contenders?

For me:

Biden: No chance. Too old, too Washington establishment, too handsy.

Sanders: Little to no chance. Too old, for a start.

Warren: Strong contender, but she has a shrill, reedy voice and this Pocahontas thing is a legit devastating attack. Though her populist economic message could resonate, since it actually is designed around the interests of the middle and working classes, instead of just being more useless tax cuts to hand even more of the nation's wealth over to the 1% to hoard. Because they don't cut themselves a big enough slice of everything just yet.

Kamala Harris: Seems to be considered a frontrunner by pretty much everyone, I know fuck all about her. My instinct is that a brown-skinned woman running for President in 2020 on a Democratic ticket will spend 18 months condescendingly lecturing millions of her potential white-male voters about what racist, sexist, homo/transphobic privileged shitheads they all are. Hopefully I'm wrong.

So this isn't really an August 2018 thread, but the midterms are coming up fast and the contenders are starting to position themselves for 2020. If the forum lasts that long, it might be interesting to see how the field changes and who rises and falls over time. :thumbsup

Warren has a plan to apply to any corporation with more than $1 billion in yearly revenue. It says that they will need to get a new federal charter, which would stipulate that:

* 40% of the company's board must be determined by the firms employees

* Political spending by the company requires 75% board approval

* Executives are forbidden from selling any of the firm's shares until 5 years after receiving them.

Which sounds like a great start when it comes to reigning in the likes of Amazon, and giving ordinary workers a bigger slice of the pie and less Industrial Revolution-style working conditions.

Pence? Wheres Donald off to?
Dead or in jail.

Nah, who the fuck knows. Anything could happen. This is an obese, out-of-shape guy in his 70s who has never exercised and has a poor diet for his entire life, and he's under massive amounts of stress. A stroke or heart attack is not at all out of the question. And he may well be mentally declining - he's had moments in public where he appears visibly lost, disoriented and confused, his attention span by several accounts is noticeably declined, he is prone to sudden fits of rage, and the level of his speech has deteriorated very noticeably in the last few years. Early stages of dementia or Alzheimers is not an impossibility.

Then there's Mueller, of course, and who knows what will or won't happen with that.

But mostly that was just a troll, putting Pence in the title. :yep

None of those names can appeal to progressives, working class rust belt voters, millennials who sat out the last election or the centrists who don't want Trump. Kamela Harris in particular is as corporate as they come. Joe Biden and Bernie are too old and white. Elizabeth Warren would be too easy of a target for Trump.

The dems are going to need someone genuine, someone with a strong economic message and someone who won't go crazy with identity politics. Right now it seems like they don't have the talent pool to beat Trump if I'm being honest. They would rather campaign on Russia and being anti-trump, instead of having their own message. Dems need their own identity and need a candidate that isn't just "slightly better than Trump"

Tulsi Gabbard is the one.

Forgot about Gabbard. She could end up being very strong. I think that a lot depends on how far down the identity politics rabbit hole they go. If they nominate a brown skinned woman like Gabbard and then shut the fuck up about it, it's there for them. Unfortunately, it seems almost 100% that, like total morons who WANT to lose to the worst POTUS in American history, they will talk about nothing but racism and sexism and fuck you, white working class males whose votes we need, Fuck. You. :patsch

It's a little too early to talk about this especially considering the mid terms have not happened yet which is what I'm kind of looking forward to but I will say this.....

Warren is the worst of the less establishment picks for the same reasons that Haggis mentioned. Cory Booker is the worst of the more establishment picks. He can give a decent speech but there's nothing else really there other than him saving a guy from dying in a fire one time. Everything that was wrong with Obama and much of what was wrong with Hillary is in Cory Booker as far as being just another democrat that will not offer any meaningful structural change on any one important issue. He is about as much of an establishment shill as you can get from the democratic party this time around.

The House that Peterbilt
Im not sure that the democratic party isn't as broken as the republican party...................we could well see another 2016 where the people generating the most enthusiasm are,effectively,independants...............

Pence couldn't win a national election by himself because folks are more or less done with fundie christian moral majority dipshits and the dems have seemingly embraced the whole identity politics thing with a terminal death grip that's going to alienate many of the very people they need to win............

It wouldn't surprise me at all if someone didn't come out of the woodwork and convince the american voters to,again, give a random 'outsider' a chance
