Genuine question. We know the majority of sky sports subscribers are doing it mostly for the premier league. With them now having the option of just getting sky sports premier league and not having to get the sky channel that the boxing is on, will this harm hearns numbers and funding on sky?

Am I right in thinking it's now £27.50 a month for all the Sky Sports channels or £18 for one £22 for two £26 for three?

And football is across two channels so if you're a football and boxing fan you might as well stay with the full package...so really it's only good for you if you only like say Formula One?

And it's surely false advertising to have AJ as the face of the 'Action and Arena' channels when he will never fight on them...

I do think its good for the consumer but for hearn it may not be. Also dont you have to buy a basic package of around 20 quid a month first and then add football on top for 18?

Nah,I don't think so.Sky will continue to use the normal shows to help build ppv fighters,I assume the best non ppv fights will be screened on the main event channel as well as action.

right, but surely less people will be watching the normal shows because you need to have sky sports arena? Since a lot of customers will just get the sky football package they wont be watching the regular sky shows?

If thats how its being priced then i will continue not paying for Sky.

Arena should really be cheaper than the football channel considering how it costs for Sky to show the reapective sports on the two channels

If that's true you're right,I assumed with the footie package the main event channel is bundled in and you will get some boxing on there as that channel is supposed to be showing the best live event at that time by the way I read what they're doing but I might be wrong.

Paying that much for just Premier League is such a bullshit deal. In Australia we are getting ripped off even worse. You need to sign upto a 24 month phone plan, subscribe to Optus sport (even more per month) and then you will want to buy a fetch tv box so you can watch it on your TV. Having EPL is running you over a thousand dollars

Looking at it again viewing figures could go down and it could in the long term hurt boxing on sky but as long as they can make some ppv money they will still show some regular show so it will be interesting to see how it all works,BT looks like the place for regular decent boxing shows at the moment for sure.

you may be right to be honest but I tried to build a bundle in sky and adding sky arena (which will show boxing) to sky sports premier league bumped the price up. so it seems getting the prem package leaves you without boxing. Surely this will hurt hearns viewing figures

also sky rely on their regular show to build ppv fighters. With less viewers watching the normal shows it will hurt long term ppv numbers too unless you get a transcendent star like AJ

They will just market the shit out of any ppv events they have coming up and the regular shows will be on the backseat like they always have. The regular shows will be nothing more than showcases for prospects and the domestic fights now anyway. Any half decent world title fight or anyone remotely popular will be on a ppv card.

Sky is still a rip off and always will be.

the way they've done it makes you realise boxing is still such a niche sport.

cricket and golf have their own channels!
Boxing is swings and roundabouts though. Cricket and golf are on every week while some weeks boxing won't have anything decent. Who the fuck would pay to watch boxing gold day in day out with the same 4 or 5 fights shown. Boxnation suffers from this too with constant fucking repeats. One week they must have shown Gonzalez-Cuardas about 15 times and they constantly show the same content over and over again.

If they were to do a channel it would have to be a combat channel and include wrestling.

Problem is the only combat sports they show is boxing so its fucked on Sky for doing a solo platform.

If they went all out and got rights to UFC and maybes some Thai, Kickboxing, amateur wrestling they could probably tie it all up in a nice channel, put some classic stuff on, a few documentaries and a couple of weekly round up shows and itd. Be worth the price. I dont bother with many other sports these days and have completely gone of football si ill likely cancel. Sports Mania does the job for me anyway so its not needed. I only have it cause its a fiver a month currently.

I have seen it mentioned in a couple of different places that part of of the WWE's TV rights deals is says they cannot also show the UFC. Maybe this is not the case and their are countries that show both. But would explain why Sky have never shown an interest in the UFC.

So previously there was sky sports 1,2,3,4,5 and you could choose to pay for all 5 or just 1 and 2. We all know that the majority of ss subscribers do so because of the premier league. But by singing up for the whole package, they also got boxing on sky sports 1 or 2.

The new packages have separated the sports. So sky sports epl will just show premier league. Sky sports arena or whatever its called will show boxing. But subscribers can now get just sky sports epl without any of the other sports channels. This means that while previously all the prem fans were getting boxing anyway, they will now just get epl at a reduced Cost.

Wondering how this will affect hearns numbers
