Alright. I'm bored.

10 either/or questions. Just answer on which you generally prefer (as in to watch, or how you'd like to fight yourself etc)

1. Power or Skill
2. Youth or Experience
3. Rough/dirty tactics on the inside or spoiling/holding from the outside
4. 12 round boxing masterclass or one-round knockout
5. Be explosive early on but fade as the fight goes on or come on strong in the second half of a fight
6. Unbeaten record or defeats on the way up
7. Excuses for a poor performance or constant pulling out due to injuries
8. Sell fights outside the ring or let your boxing do the talking
9. Retire too early or carry on too late
10. Haye/Chisora or Khan/Garcia

My answers. Even though I made up the questions (and they're not the best admittedly), my answer to the retire too early or carry on too late surprised me. I hate seeing the likes of Roy Jones and Holyfield carry on but I think I'd rather that than them both go out before reaching their full potential. Although hardly any retire too early anyway so it's probably a stupid question..

1 power - nothing better than seeing one guy hurt and wondering if he'll survive
2 youth - more to give, yet naive. Exciting
3 rough and dirty all day long. It's not a tickling competition
4 12 rounds
5 Tough one. I like t when boxers come in strong late. I hate it when professional athletes gas after 4 rounds
6 defeats on the way up tell us more IMO
7- Tough again. Probably excuses. At least we actually get to see a fight
8- I honestly can't decide. I like boxers to be respectful, but sometimes bad mouthing can be funny
9 - Carry on too late. You never know, a boxer could have a Duran - Barkley moment
10 - Del Boy - Haye, not question

1. Skill - Everyone loves a fighter who can bang, but i'd much rather watch Sweet Pea over Julian Jackson
2. Experience - Love seeing a veteran school a young kid.
3. Rough/Dirty tactics
4. 12 Round Boxing masterclass, same as question 1 really
5. Come on strong in second half - Always enjoy watching a fighter looking good down the stretch
6. Not sure - but these days an early loss or 2 has a bigger impact than it used too.
7. Again one that I can't really answer
8. Let your boxing do the talking - I do like guys like Mayorga, who was one of the biggest trash talkers ever, but you knew he would always go out there and take a beating, which is why I can accept it from guys like him, David Haye on the other hand...
9. Retire to early - not sure there is a thing as retiring to early, but there's not much worse than guys who don't know when to quit
10. Haye/Chisora - Neither are great fights, but i'll go for Haye - Del simply because of the events leading up to it

6. Unbeaten record or defeats on the way up(Tells you a lot more about the fighter, can't stand padded records)
7. Excuses for a poor performance or constant pulling out due to injuries

10. Haye/Chisora or Khan/Garcia (Didn't need to long to think about this one!!)

Good thread!

I'd replace 10 with: Head-hunter or body-snatcher.

Questions 6 & 9 are good and deserve abit more explanation.

6. Unbeaten records although means you've probably got a paded record to some extent, in this day and age still makes you more marketable to the general public. I'd say it'd be alot more difficult to build hype/interest in you with a few defeats in your early fights (say like johnny nelson had) as having your '0' seems to be something to cherish, unfortunately.

9. Tough one as i couldve gone with either. Leave the game early and you'll get out with your senses, money etc, but theres always gonna be the questions of 'what if...' and potential to be lured back again - coming back when its too late for example. Whereas you carry on too long, you could end up like Holyfield with slurred speech, broke and fighting to make ends meet, but you do it because its all you've ever known, but regardless of what you say about him and the countless others who've gone on too long, they still command respect and deserve it for putting themselves through it time and time again.

1. Power or Skill: Watching the sweet science and the skillful class of some boxers is amazing. Cue Duran, Mayweather, Leonard, etc.
2. Youth or Experience: Youth is good and all but when you have experience you've been through hell and come out fine on the other side. You're ready for anything.
3. Rough/dirty tactics on the inside or spoiling/holding from the outside: It's more exciting.
4. 12 round boxing masterclass or one-round knockout: Again, I love a Mayweather-Marquez kind of fight, fights where skill is really shown. It's beautiful to watch.
5. Be explosive early on but fade as the fight goes on or come on strong in the second half of a fight: Kind of like Smokin' Joe Frazier. A boxer needs to have the ability to get stronger in the second half of a fight. It's a great asset.
6. Unbeaten record or defeats on the way up: It tells us that you're taking losses and carrying on winning fights. You're not padding your record. Like Hatton.
7. Excuses for a poor performance or constant pulling out due to injuries: At least we got to see the fucking fight.
8. Sell fights outside the ring or let your boxing do the talking: Makes things more fun as an outsider looking in.
9. Retire too early or carry on too late: At least we got to see the best years of a boxer rather than miss out.
10. Haye/Chisora or Khan/Garcia: It's going to be a great event!

Very surprised that i'm the only person to have chosen retire to early, you're all a bunch of savages.
 For me, I just think that there is a certain majesty in a once-great fighter trying to recapture that greatness one last time. If a fighter just fights on because they need the money then it's sad, but I like the nobility of greatness trying to endure against the odds and against the changing times. It reminds me of Robert Vaughan's faded reflexes and him knowing that but still deciding to take one last throw of the dice in The Magnificent Seven, or The Wild Bunch taking on impossible odds, and makes me root for the guy.
