Anyone know owt about this Robinson fella?Posted by: James Blears on 5/15/2013 .
New WBC featherweight champion Abner Mares (26-0-1, 14KOs) is strongly hinting that silver champion, number one contender and fellow Mexican Robinson Castellanos (18-9, 11KOs) could very well be his next opponent. Abner was at hand in Mexico City to be presented with the green and gold belt, by WBC President Jose Sulaiman. And Abner suggested:
"I don't have a preference. But I do realize that Robinson is the challenger and that he's earned his spot. He went all the way to Panama and was successful, and I think he deserves his chance for the title. Robinson is the guy who deserves the opportunity."
Abner who's also said he want his first defense to be on home turf in Guadalajara, or in Mexico City.
Guillermo Rigondeaux who's WBA and WBO world champion at super bantamweight defeated Abner as an amateur. He's recently said he'd like to repeat the dose in the pro ring. Grinning and not in the least nettled, Abner dubbed Rigondeaux a defensive fighter.
He added: "I wouldn't mind fighting him, as he's been running his mouth. But he doesn't want to move up to 126 pounds. And…all my eyes are on who's at featherweight.
Abner said he'd also consider going for a fourth title at super feather commenting: "If my body lets me move up and I feel strong I'll most definitely try. Why not!
"It's a risk but boxing is a risk and I'll try my luck. I'm capable of going up to super featherweight because of my skills."
