BoxingScene has been advised that an agreement has been reached for WBA lightweight champion Richard Abril (17-3-1) to face British lightweight champion Gavin Rees (37-1-1) in the UK. According to Abril the fight will take place either in late September or October.

"We have agreed to fight Rees. The fight will take place in late September or in early October. It depends on what date the British TV gives us," Abril told BoxingScene.com

Rees last fought on July 7th when he knocked out Derry Matthews at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield. Abril last fought in April when he lost a controversial decision to former champion Brandon Rios who came into the fight overweight.

Abril said that he looks forward to the challenge of fighting Rees in his backyard and that he is sure that he will win the fight.

"It will be my first time fighting in that country and it will be a great experience for me. I am ready for whatever he brings and I promise you that I will win because I will give everything I have when I step inside the ring," Abril confidently stated.

I think Abril wins this comfortably. he will box at range and then close in when Rees tires later in the fight.
:deal

A weight drained Rios is still better than Rees

Can't see how Rees is possibly going to win this, but good luck to him. He really does deserve it, but its not a great match up for him. He's got to try and outwork a very long guy here that knows how to neutralize up close. Very difficult task.
