Ricky said he's not going from preparing for a warm up/keep busy fight To the biggest fight of his career, he said he'd fight burns later in the year if he gets £400K.
Understandable, but only if he does fight broner. Dunno what he has to worry about anyway, i personally think he beats broner.
Ugh.

He'll fucking savage him. What's the point?

Get him him the WBC belt. :conf
Ultimately I think Rees gets outclassed in a way similar to Barker against Sexy Serg. Broner is the truth and will probably win nearly every round before stopping Rees around 8/9 IMO. But I don't think Rees will embarrass himself or look out of his depth at all, and he may get another title shot somewhere down the line after this.
I thought Barker fought a decent fight against Sergio. I had it 95-95 at the time of the stoppage myself.
Bit of a mismatch this though IMO, Rees is a decent fighter but he's not even close to world class it'll be too easy for Broner.

I always disagree with this to be honest. I'll have to go back and watch it again but I thought he was way down on the cards at the time of the stoppage, just didn't lose any rounds big and had his moments and didn't look out his depth. I didn't think it was at all close on the cards, though.

I know that Sergio was dominating the pace and the tempo, and was throwing a lot more than Barker, but I felt that Barker in some rounds was landing punches more cleanly. Even if it was just a jab he'd connect more cleanly than Martinez who was hitting Barker's arms and gloves with most shots.

That's just how I saw it.
I saw Barker on the canvas knocked out, myself. Same with Macklin, same with Williams.

I never feel Martinez got any credit for his Macklin/Barker wins, which to me were impressive. Came on strong later on and blasted them. Terrific fighter.

He had a perforated eardrum, he wasn't 'knocked out' really, he just essentially quit on the canvas.

It doesn't take anything away from his performance until then I don't think.
I've always thought Barker took at least three/four rounds against Martinez. I dunno if people have marks against him for having what's perceived as a negative gameplan or something, but in my opinion there were a few rounds wherein Barker would land 5/6/7/whatever clean, effective straight punches while Martinez would spend the entire three minutes slapping Barker's guard. Actually landing > work-rate, for me. That said I had Martinez winning the fight, but I agree with what Sports says for the most part.

Didn't see him beat the count, and it was because of a punch, so yeah... kind of a knockout when you think about it.

Maybe we have different interpretations of what 'knocked out' means. Technically yes, of course he was.

This.
I don't think Burns' decision is entirely about money. I expect it will come to light sooner rather than later.

I'm glad Rees has stepped up. Good fight for him money wise I suspect.

I've been told a few things that may or may not be true. If true, it'll come to light very soon

Interesting, I would like to know more but I can understand the fear of a lawsuit may put you off.

Adrien Broner seems as if he will have little difficulty making the lightweight limit for his Feb. 16 title defense against Gavin Rees at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, according to figures provided by World Boxing Council official William Boodhoo.

Broner came in at 145 pounds on Jan. 18, a figure certified by Bernie Profato of the Ohio athletic commission, according to the WBC. That was several pounds under the 10 percent range - 149 pounds - required by the WBC for its 30-day interval weigh-ins. Broner's weight was taken 28 days before he is to step on the scale for the pre-fight weigh-in.

Rees, meanwhile, was at 151.5 pounds, but that figure might just deserve an asterisk. Though he was 2.5 pounds over, his weight was taken days earlier than necessary on Jan. 14 (and certified by Dennis Gilmartin of the British Boxing Board of Control).

"Rees' weight is slightly above the safety limit but is understandable as it was taken as he was about to travel to the USA," Boodhoo told BoxingScene.com via email.

Both will need to be within 5 percent of the lightweight limit - 142 pounds - for the next interval weigh-in, which is supposed to come 7 days before the final weigh-in. This disclaimer is necessary: Not all boxers in WBC title fights have been providing their weights at these intervals, and the sanctioning body has not enforced compliance with its rules.

The undefeated Broner is coming off his career-best performance, a dominant eighth-round stoppage of Antonio DeMarco that added a lightweight title to the belt he'd previously held at junior lightweight. The 23-year-old from Cincinnati is now 25-0 with 21 knockouts.

Rees, a 32-year-old from Wales, is 37-1 with 18 knockouts and 1 technical draw. His sole loss came 2008, when he was stopped in the 12th round by Andriy Kotelnik.
