Makes more sense than the #2 at welterweight they had him last month.

Garcia is the champ at 140. Peterson and Matthysse can fight for the 141 lb title next week, 142 is vacant, then after that Khan is probably one of the best 143 lb fighters in the world.

So, when he was a light welter, they ranked him at 147. When he fights at welter, they rank him back at 140

Simply put GBP have maneuvered Khan in front of Matthysse so that neither of their cash cows have to fight him and they can sacrifice one to the other before moving them on.

And to think Matthysse could have had a title if he wasn't looking to secure the WBC by whooping Garcia's ass.

 Offensively, certainly. Particularly now that Manny has moved up to 144 lb.

Espn reporting:

Amir Khan has confirmed that he will rise to welterweight for his next fight, which he hopes will be for a world title when he returns to the ring in December.

Khan was recently dropped from No. 2 position in the WBC welterweight rankings, despite having never fought at 147lbs, when the organisation amended the list and removed the Bolton fighter from its top 15 at the level.
