Nothing surprises me anymore with all the parasitic sanctioning bodies interested in making money rather than making the sport great. Sulaiman likes to promote himself as the saviour of boxing but this is the man who aligned himself with the crook Don King & effectively set the ball rolling for the hack job, helping to get rid of 15 world title fights. Everyone who has sense in boxing knows Ward is the man @ 168, it's a shame these scumbags just keep ripping everyone off with their antics. I know one thing, if wbc or any of the others bring in a new weight division between cruiser & heavy, then I'm through with this sport for good!

We all know Ward is THE champ, but isn't the problem here that he is set to go over a year without fighting or defending his title? The sanctioning bodies love money and I doubt they would penalize Chavez Jr or Saul Alvarez the same way but there is some logic to this decision.

Alternatively, could they be manufacturing a scenario for Jr to move up a weight class and claim the belt by having a weaker incumbent champ?

I can't believe Uncle Bob hasn't set up Chavez Jr/Sjekloca already, I guess he's confident he'll beat Martinez in a rematch but I'm sure he's in the minority.

100%, the knockdown overshadowed one of the most one-sided fights I've seen. he should stay well away from :sexy

Whose worse? The WBC or WBA?
Not much difference really. Wbc have followed Wba in having loads of titles. Eventually we will end up with everyone in the top 10 of their ratings having a title if they get their way. I hate both but Wbc get on my nerves because of Jose and his inflated ego. They even have titles in Kickboxing.

The list of titles between them are staggering,,

WBC Champion Emeritus
WBC Champion In Recess
WBC World champion
WBC Silver Champion
WBC Diamond Champion
WBA Super Champion
WBA Regular Champion
WBA interim Champion

I probably missed out some as well. :-(

I can hear Bob Mee's cries from here. He's right about WBC being fucking clownshoes, even if he is a bit of a whinging nonce.

Isn't 'Champion Emeritus' for interim champions who are put out of action, not the actual champion who's defending his belt? They've got a fucking sickening grip on world boxing, it's really quite a shame. But it'll get worse before it gets better, boxing needs to hit rock bottom if it's ever gonna stand a chance of getting these cunts out of office and ruining the sport.

Good to hear Bute's continuing to build himself up though, it'd be suicide to get back in with Froch after one mediocre return fight. It's just a shame Froch isn't getting to defend his title against an elite name in his next one. I'm praying for the Kessler rematch.

I don't really keep up with all the tiles. I started watching boxing in the mid 80's so there has been 3 titles as long as I can remember & Wbo came along late 80's. I used to be able to name every champ in all 17 divisions but my love for this game is not as strong today. The Ring title was the one I followed until recently but De La Hoya got his grips on that & they messed about with the ratings system, effectively devaluing the belt.

Boxing was always my favourite sport but with all the politics that goes on it has sunk down to 4th place in the list of sports I prefer to watch, that's how bad its got. I love the history but the modern game is toxic. Like I stated above, they bring in the new division then I'm done.

Vitali was Champion Emeritus for 4 years I think, it enables a former champion to get first crack at the belt after giving it up I believe.

I flat out refuse to call any of the alphabet holders champions, I only use the term World Champion for the accepted number 1 in the division.

I.e Martinez, Ward, etc. It's the only way to keep my sanity regarding the situation.

I surprised myself by saying every champ in 17 divisions, I normally say titlists or champ for the accepted no1 as well.

The sad thing is, it's only going to get worse, there is no authority in place to stop them doing what they want, we are part of a minority of boxing fans that don't consider them world champions, lot's still do and there lies a problem in itself, some people still care that a bullshit title is on the line and that means something to them and are willing to accept it.

Yeah, I agree but I am old enough to have gone through a period where we had:

WBA
WBC
WBO
WAA
IBF
IBA
IBO
IBC
WBF x 2
WBU x 2
NBA
GBU

& other(s) I may have missed.

I can remember in North America they had NABF & USBA titles now they NABA & NABO etc etc. Europe now has an EU title along with more traditional EBU & I think WBA has a europe title. It goes on & on all over the world. It should be one champ, one title, 15 round fights & work your way through the national & continental titles in the old fashioned way but titles are dime a dozen now, it's shit!

Then you have the WBO starting to get in on the action with their Fighter of the decade belt they put up for Pacquaio Marquez 4 that will probably spur them on into putting more made up belts on the line for fights that have no reason for their belt being on the line, whatever version.

The Ring belt is turning into a joke as well now that they have changed the rules for winning it to suit Golden Boys propaganda rag and stable

You've got the WBA Unified Champion as well. That's the one they gave to Gamboa a couple of years back because it would be a little awkward having two 'super' champions (Chris John already had that bauble). This is all despite their requirement to become a 'super' champion at the time was for you to have unified the title.
