It's definitely an interesting one. Dawson having to drop to 168 is frustrating, but he should still bring a different type of opponent to Andre Ward for the first time. Ward's used to most of his opponents trying to knock him out, Chad won't do that and it'll be much more of a boxing match than Ward's last few fights against Froch, Abraham, Bika etc.
Plus with Dawson coming into this fight off the back of beating Bernard Hopkins, he should have the right experience to deal with someone like Ward.
It is an interesting one anyway.

I'll watch, and part of me will be fascinated, but I expect it to be pretty dull tbh, neither one of them has an attractive style, and this is supposed to be entertainment at the end of the day. I'm interested in the result, but don't expect a fun fight. Plus I really wanted Ward to fight some other SMWs (I doubt that Dawson will stay at SMW whatever the result) and wanted Dawson to stay at LHW and either clean up or lose trying. So I just can't shake a little disappointment, however interested I am in the paper result. They just wanted two Americans to fight for major titles (plus neither of them wants to travel to find opposition) so this feels like more of a fight for the accountants than one that is the right fight.

Yes thats my only bugbear Wards legacy would look much better if he potshotted Dawson up at LHW and then dropped back down again, or stayed there. I think you are quite right that version of Hopkins that he beat is a very good warm up for somebody like Ward. Will be interesting to se how big/strong Dawson is at 168. How he will compete with Wards strength or if Ward runs into somebody who he cant push about so easily.

It's been so long since he boxed below 170, more than 6 years. I'm really disappointed this couldn't have been made at light heavyweight where it should have been. Ward is one of those fighters who takes every advantage he can and that negates his achievements in my eyes. Even more-so in this particular fight. It just seems wrong for the light heavyweight champion to move down in weight to box for an historically less prestigious title.

I'll watch it, but it's completely lost its appeal to me. At 175 it's very interesting. How would ward handle the move up etc? But bringing Dawson down to 168, after already saying he is going up to light heavy anyway, makes it a pointless move on his behalf. He has just shown his bitchy side!

People are making a bigger issue out of the 7 extra pounds that Dawson has to lose than it should be. The man knows his own body, and if he thought that coming down a weight would significantly affect his chances of winning, do you think he would do it? 7 pounds isn't' going to hugely improve Ward's chances of winning the fight either imo. Plus Dawson's been on about coming down to super-middle for a few years now.
Im confident that Chad will make the weight comfortably, and Ward will beat him because hes the better fighter.

Oh he thinks he can do it alright but it remains to see if he can. Oscar was the same when he fought Pacquiao.
I really don't think the weight will be a big issue in the fight but it's just plain shitty that Ward refused to give up anything that wasn't to his advantage.
I also hate it because Dawson has a ready made excuse if he loses too.
