Very good fighter from what ive seen of him over the last few years could be making bang on world level at some point. Good to see the young Olympic talent turning over now.

Looks very likely he's on the Hatton HK cards, looking forward to seeing him fight. He's creating a lot of buzz in Oz. Hatton's building a strong stable out here now: Hooper and Hammond are Oz's top prospects, Browne is the up and coming heavyweight and Rex Tso is the local star. :good

Hatton Promotions are delighted to announce the signing of 2012 London Olympian Damien Hooper.

The 22-year-old Australian light-heavyweight, who is from a proud aboriginal heritage, defeated Marcus Browne of the United States last summer prior to being edged out by Russia's eventual gold medallist Egor Mekhontcev.

Before that Hooper had won a gold medal at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore and a silver at the Youth World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan that same year.

A number of promotional outfits were interested in obtaining the Aussie puncher's signature, but he feels Ricky Hatton is the right man to lead him to success in the professional side of the sport.

"I feel privileged to be signed with Hatton Promotions, the team is fantastic and Ricky is a legend," Damien said.

"I'm going to make some big statements quickly in the pro ranks and I couldn't think of a better promoter than Hatton Promotions to showcase my skill to the world.

"It's the next chapter in my life and I've been looking forward to this for quite some time. I have done my apprenticeship in amateurs and learnt as much possible. Now with my trainer Gareth Williams it's time to put in the hard work and repay the faith everybody has shown in me.

"I want to thank my management Brendan Bourke, Matt Clark and Philippe Fondu and of course Hatton Promotions".

Matt Clark said: "I'm absolutely delighted that Damien has signed with Hatton Promotions. I truly believe that along with Cameron Hammond, Hatton Promotions have signed two of Australia's most talented young boxers and the cream of the 2012 Olympic squad.

"Hatton Promotions now have three Australian's on their books, with Lucas 'Big Daddy' Browne blazing a trail for Damien and Cameron to follow and I know they're keen to develop promising young boxers in this part of the world.

"They're easily the most professional and efficient promoters I've dealt with and signing such a talented prospect in Damien to their company was for me, a no brainer."

Ricky Hatton said: "I'm very excited to have Damien Hooper on board with Hatton Promotions. He's a very talented individual that has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Australian greats such as Jeff Fenech and Kostya Tszyu."

Details of Damien's professional debut will be announced shortly.

Yeah April 20th in Brisbane. Looks like the Hong Kong cards won't continue as I thought/was told.

He has three Aussie's and to be frank, they're all better than Rex Tso so it makes sense to put on shows in Oz. The Macau opportunity has also been blocked for them. Fuckin' Bob

It's good that he's signed with Hatton instead of one of those dreadful aussie promoters. Looks a decent fighter, I hope the posters saying he's a future undisputed champion are taking the piss, that's Andre Wards territory over the next decade and this guy is no Andre Ward

Who knows i thought he looked very good as an am, very natural fluid fighter, I wouldn't be surprised if he did very well as a pro

Hooper is now 2-0, having beating Murray and perrenial loser Mumtaz. It is important he is provided with the right calibre of opponent next up because he'll soon get bored beating overmatched opponents, and we've seen what boredom can lead him to.

Really like Hooper, thought he was class as an am, would have liked him to have a stab at gold in Rio but he''ll make a good pro

Ah @Spider good to see you here! :good

Hooper will probably be on the Browne-Towers card in July as well. There aren't that many LHW/SMWs in Oz and in truth he'll blitz through them quite quickly (although I wouldn't put him in with Wood just yet). Hopefully Ricky will bring over a Brit to bulk up an 'Ashes' card.

Plenty of ESB refugees in here! Also Garth has moved down to middleweight with a pretty good win over Kalakoda the other week. He plans to campaign there and has said he wants GGG!
