This Saturday, Bristol hosts championship boxing for the first time in 15 years as Lee Haskins battles Martin Ward for the vacant British bantamweight title.

Not since 1998, when Glenn Catley defeated Neville Brown for the middleweight title, has the city held a fight for the coveted Lonsdale belt.

The City Academy is the venue for this weekend's show, as former European champion Haskins hopes to win his 2nd British title as he looks to rebuild his career following defeat last time out.

I'll also be at a head to head press conference between the pair tomorrow so if anyone wants me to ask anything to Haskins, Ward, Francis or promoter Chris Sanigar let me know :good

Nice one, interesting fight. Can't normally bare to watch Haskins so dunno if Ill watch it. Wards not your typical ec=xciting fighter either, he can be flashy at times but i think this ones going to go the distance and be really cagey. It should be close, Haskins being at home could be decisive.

Made up for Haskins that he's got a fight in Bristol, but I don't really think his stock is gonna increase after his last fight, which was fucking awesome. Shame, he's probably one of my favourite British fighters. McCloskey and Haskins have my favourite style; slick and white.

I can certainly see how you got in, @Roe. They look like they're essentially doing the press in the town with people not even paying attention. Can't be too hard to get a press pass there.

The press conference was cancelled because Ward's flight down was delayed.

The weigh in today was in the middle of a shopping centre in town but I couldn't make it cuz I had some stuff to do.
That's a shame, would have been a good experience

I see Dean Francis is on the under card against a very uninspiring opponent (http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=467086&cat=boxer) who's listed as a Cruiser. I wonder if Francis is letting his weight drift again? It's odd that Francis started his comeback ambitiously against the unbeaten (though untested) Justyn Hugh in a ten round title fight. But he's now faced two mediocre (no disrespect intended) imports back to back.

Yeah I was looking forward to it.

It's just a stay busy fight and one to hopefully get his name back known in Bristol so he can maybe headline a show here next time out. The board put out him against Courtney Fry as an eliminator but Bellew's vacated the title now so I'm not sure what's going on. Bob Ajisafe will presumably fight for the vacant title against someone, maybe Dean.

I didn't know Bellew had finally vacated (I know he's after a rematch with Chilemba but he wanted no part of Ajisafe anyway). If Francis gets a shot at the vacant title it will be as bad as Robin Reid v Kenny Anderson, totally undeserved and I think Ajisafe will beat him with some ease. Surely Ovill McKenzie is more deserving?
