Which of the British champions at the moment would you say was the best on a pound for pound basis and who do you feel has the most potential of them all?

David Price (Heavyweight)
Jon Lewis Dickinson (Cruiserweight)
Billy Joe Saunders (Middleweight)
Frankie Gavin (Welterweight)
Darren Hamilton (Light Welterweight)
Martin Gethin (Lightweight)
Gary Buckland (Super Featherweight)
Lee Selby (Featherweight)
Lee Haskins (Super Bantamweight)
Paul Butler (Super Flyweight)
Kevin Satchell (Flyweight)

I reckon they'll be most successful in this order

Saunders
Gavin
Selby

Good thread idea @Roe :good

In terms of potential Gavin is really special, I know it wont happen now but i wish he was at light welter but i still think he can get a world title
Billy Joe is another real talent, again i always thought he'd be better at light middle but he seems to have adapted well and he can make at least Euro level, probably the world mix as well
Lee Selby, massive fan boy so can't be impartial but whatever i think he really could be a proper dominant champ, he could be a legitimate p4p top 10 fighter
David Price should do at least Euro level, the chin worries will always be there but he could be the hardest absolute puncher in the game next to Wlad so has the tools there
Buckland is in a weak division and is very capable so who knows what he could achieve
Butler looks very good, but dont know enough about the super fly division to comment, but he looks the part
Satchell looks handy too but same as above I dont know a great deal about the division ill be honest
Haskins - hes one im glad is in the mix here but he can mix it at Euro level as well
Gethin im really not sure on, not saying he's bad at all but for me he seems to have come out of nowhere so I'll take a look at his next fight before judging
Dickinson is in a weak division domestically so should win the belt outright and has shown on his day he's a decent operator, will reserve judgement for now til he gets a bit more momentum, but he should think about taking the next step soon
Hamilton reminds me of those fighters from the British light middle scene around the early 2000s, dont ask me why  he just seems like he'll go beyond British level but I'm not sure where it will end, he looks really well schooled and is a big unit, another one where I may reserve judgment but i expect to do ok

Sorry it's remotely in weight order  As you can see I rate becoming a British Champion highly, i generally think its a sign (especially winning it outright) that you can mix with the best in Europe and fringe World level, its the final step that some find hard, but i think it's a talented bunch atm, with Selby, Gavin and Saunders having oodles of talent, it's all about management, dedication and a bit of luck for them I think.

I've been a big believer in Gavin, but with his personal problems which in turn have turned into lack of fights, I really think he's going to massively under acheive now. I was talking to his brother before 2008 and he said then Golden Boy had offered him £500k to sign with them before the Olympics, in hindsight that could have been a brilliant move for him, away from distractions etc.

wow that really would have been a godsend, so much talent it really can't be overstated how much of a waste it's been already. At one point I thought we had a genuine chance of a British ATG on our hands as crazy as it sounds now, but it's the lack of activity and moving up to a weight where he has no pop that's really going to have affected his career

Theres only so many excuses, the fuck up in Beijing should have rung alarm bells really, he also isnt helped by the lack of fights, which is possibly due to the amount of money he's on.

With the Golden Boy thing, he got homesick in Manchester so don't know if a move to the states would have been a wise move either.

I think he's 28 this year and a Pro for what 5 years? and still only had 17/18 fights. Granted he doesnt take much punishment but still really needs to get a shift on.

Maybe Frank losing a few big names will be inclined to give him the push he needs.

wasnt the manchester thing coupled with girl problems and falling out with the Heffrons (didnt mark put on twitter he was going to beat frankie up a few weeks ago?) or was that when he moved to London? It's a shame because skillset alone he's one of the best in the world, it's lack of power and lack of decent fights that have hindered him. Hopefully this fight with Vassell kick starts a good run

The upcoming Vassell fight will tell us a lot about Gavin - part of the reason it's a great fight to look forward to. If he wins that and looks good, hopefully he can really kick on as soon as possible after.

:good

If he doesnt train his arse off for this and show real dedication he could be in for a tough night, Vassell will be up for this and is always in great shape.

Possibly, I think the LOndon move was messed up because his Mom was ill, the main thing for me is the inactivity.

When are the Olympians contracts up?

David Price (Heavyweight) - Think Thompson will stop him again. Could stuggle beyond domestic unless he makes big changes.
Jon Lewis Dickinson (Cruiserweight) - Domestic level at best.
Billy Joe Saunders (Middleweight) - Could struggle beyond European level due to being a small Middleweight.
Frankie Gavin (Welterweight) - Just think he lacks the stuff deep down inside him to be a World Class fighter. Fancy Vassell to beat him.
Darren Hamilton (Light Welterweight) - Could win a European title.
Martin Gethin (Lightweight) - Won't hold the British for long.
Gary Buckland (Super Featherweight) - European level fighter. Could challenge for a world title.
Lee Selby (Featherweight) - The standout fighter for me. Think he will win multiple world titles.
Lee Haskins (Super Bantamweight) - European level.
Paul Butler (Super Flyweight) - Such a golf in class between British & World. Will probably challenge for a world title.
Kevin Satchell (Flyweight) - Could maybe win a European title
