As has been rumoured for the last couple of weeks...
WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns' scheduled title unification fight with Miguel Vazquez has been placed in doubt, STV has learned.
Burns was set to put his title on the line, with Vazquez risking his IBF belt, in a unification fight in London later this month. There are now concerns that the highly-anticipated meeting may not take place on the scheduled date.
STV has learned that the fight is now in doubt because both parties are yet to finalise terms.
Promoter Frank Warren is expected to make comment on the matter within the next 24 hours.
When STV contacted Warren's camp, the response was to insist that the fight would go ahead, though they could not confirm when this would take place. Vazquez's representatives were unavailable for comment.
Any cancellation or delay would be a further blow for Burns, who has not stepped into the ring since a successful title defence against Kevin Mitchell in September 2012.
A planned fight with Liam Walsh in December was cancelled after Burns' opponent was injured in a car accident and his replacement, Jose Ocampo, pulled out following the death of his trainer.
