I predicted a Chavez knockout :smug Smug as fuck.

Woah! Just looked on his boxrec and they have him fighting Martinez in September?! Did everyone know about this? Have I missed something?
It was agreed ages ago but nobody thought it would happen, it still might not.

Chavez has been drinking all of his Ariza shakes.

There was some sort of contract signed to say that the winner of Chavez-Lee has to fight Martinez. I'll be surprised if it happens.

Jr will beat Sergio. Those mid-round lulls he has? Chavez will be all over him. He'll fall to bits and not have his typical late rounds second wind against a big lad like Jr. I'm predicting Chavez Jr UD.

Then Jr Vs Frochy at the Azteca ;)

Made a thread on ESB about how underrated he was, given alot of stick due to his dad but he's clearly been putting mad work in the gym improving tenfold with every bout. Can't knock him for that and he's actually become one of the biggest players in a stacked division.

Please everyone, keep perspective - it was Andy fucking Lee! A guy who'd lost to Brian Vera and been made to look foolish by Craig Mcewan for ten rounds. Yes, good performance, great stoppage but over a guy who had shit stamina, no defence and no significant power.

I suspect Martinez hits harder than Lee and he's more adaptable. Plus Chavez doesn't mix it up the way Macklin did, and he'll open up more than Barker did.

I've said for a while he is overrated and has come on loads under Roach. Obviously hasn't been in a big elite level test but has cleaned up on the fringe contender stakes beating Lee, Rubio, Manfredo, Duddy, Lyell, Zbik (although could have wen't the other way) and has a solid win over Molina (have not seen the fight and have rumours that both Molina fights could have swung Molina's way).

I was a bit unsure of him around the Rowland fight as he looked terrible against a less than stellar opponent but he has a good work rate, is very big for the weight, throws a lot and so far has been able to take a dig. If the Martinez fight happens then we will really see what he is made of and although I'd favour Martinez I would not be keen to write Chavez off.

Not going to happen, mate. Sergio will win wide, might even stop Jr.
This is less about how good I think Chavez Jr is and more about how not that great Martinez actually is.

Thing is with a Martinez fight, Martinez can be a lazy fucker at times and if Chavez come forward aggressively I could see him stealing rounds, as long as he stays on his feet I think he is in with a chance of victory (deserved or not)

well, arum announced it after the fight....but buncey thinks it may be doubtful as alverez and ortiz are on on the same night...in las vegas too...and both HBO....so both won't happen....we'll see i suppose.
Ortiz/Canelo is on Showtime PPV. Martinez manager has confirmed Chavez/Martinez Sept 15 at Thomas and Mack in Vegas on HBO PPV.

I think the lad has come on leaps and bounds recently. He is fucking huge at the weight, works the body well, picks his shots well, and seems to have good power. I've not seen last nights fight, but it was suppose to be a close affair. From what I've read, a one legged Jr took Lee apart.

I'd also give him a very very good chance at beating Martinez (who isn't as good as many make out). Those low hands and lack of any real work rate will cost him I feel. I also feel Martinez is susceptible to being dropped, and has been done so on numerous occasions. I think Jr may just stop him down the stretch, if he can make the weight safely

@dftaylor Maybe he is but I'm not so sure he's miles ahead of the competition. Zbik, Rubio & Lee. Chavez is now one of the top contenders.

Martinez is very good, but nowhere near as slick as he thinks he is. Chavez will be consistent in his approach and, bar a wonder shot, I reckon he can take enough of Martinez's shots to stay in the fight long enough to really impose his will on Martinez.

I hope I'm wrong. Chavez Jr as lineal middleweight champion would break my heart.
