Everybody throw out some names for each catagory, I'll put up polls for each thing closer to the time, let's keep this thread full of suggestions till December 30th and then people have till the end of January first to vote in each of the several polls I'll be making.

Allow me to explain each choice.

Donaire: Started by winning a decision over Vazquez Jr, won a decision over Mathebula to win the IBF title to go with his WBO strap. KO'd the man in the decision and send him into retirement (Nishioka) and is now scheduled to close the year off with a nice KO over Arce.

Fight of the year: Rios vs Alverado was action packed from start to finish. Absolute war.

KOTY:

1sakoty: No more needs to be said

Upset of the year: Garcia KO'd the man at 140 in Khan in a fight where nobody was really giving him a chance.

Robbery of the year: Utterly disgusting result.

Non event of the year: I fucking wish Gamboa fought Rios.

I don't think Donaire is a stone wall pick to be honest. Most expected him to beat an ageing Nishioka, and I thought he looked damn right awful against Mathebula.

That said, if he wins next week, it will be 4 good wins this year. I'll have a think

I think the its the 'elite activity' that favours Donaire. I mean who else? Froch? Guerrero? Viloria? Cleverly? Garcia? Donaire has a bigger number of better wins than those...

Yeah I'm trying to think who could replace him but I can't think of anyone better. If we're going by a 12 month period, I'd say Ward with his win over Froch late last year. But that's cheating

Jaro stopping Pongsaklek was definitely the upset of the year, IMO.

Should add some more categories like breakthrough of the year, best performance, best prospect, round of the year, most memorable moment etc. :good

Fight of the year: - Salido - JuanMa II just nicks Rios/Alvarado and Viloria/Tyson

KO of the year: - Garcia KO Morales.

Onesided arse kicking of the year: - Froch - Bute

Upset of the year: - Has to be Rodriguez stopping Joyi, no?

Robbery of the year: - Bradley v Pacquio hands down. Abril vs Rios was horrible too, but on a 'smaller' stage.

Big upset, but not for me.

Sonny Boy Jaro going into the Pongsaklek fight was 0-8 outside of the Philippines, lost his last significant fight to a 4 fight novice and was basically just a journeyman. In comparison, Pong had only lost once in 15 years and, despite being past his prime at the time, was fluttering in and around the bottom end of the P4P Top ten. As for the fight itself, even with the lineal and WBC flyweight titles being on the line, the bout was considered so insignificant that I don't remember seeing much reporting on the fight at all.

Despite all of that, Jaro went to Thailand, battered a modern boxing legend in front of his home fans, and shocked the world.

As for Joyi-Rodriguez, it definitely deserves a mention. But with Joyi having to travel to Mexico (first fight outside of SA), not being active (one fight in 18 months), not looking that infallible in his last fight, and his opponent having some decent, if not great form going into the contest, I don't think it's quite at the level of Pong-Jaro.

Ye  it was a bit of bias!

I nearly had:
Fighter of the Year: Carl Froch
Fight of the Year: Carl Froch KO6 Bute
KO of the Year: Froch KO6 Bute
Round of the Year: Froch-Bute round 6
Upset of the Year: Froch KO6 Bute
