Around spring next year I think but then again these contract issues can really drag out. mares should jump though, Top Rank has just about every credible opponent in the 3-4 weights around him so it would be daft for him to continue with Golden Boy considering they can't give him many good fights until he moves up to lightweight.

yea hope he does, like you say though not sure how easy it will be. He's managed by Frank Espinoza and think his fighters all stay with Golenboy and i dont see him leaving them, although i could be wrong there. cant think any Espinoza fighters being with Top Rank

It's a cracking fight. Donaire will win it, but Mares aside, a step up in weight is really needed. There's so much for him at featherweight.

Salido, JuanMa, Ponce, Gonzalez would all be quality. I can only imagine Nonito vs JuanMa!

Really good fight if it comes off. That said I'm not sure I'd want Donaire moving up just yet, there's obviously stuff for him to do at super-bantam before he does anything at 126, namely a Mares fight for me. Rigo would be nice too but Mares takes priority for me.

Still a good match-up though regardless of John not quite being as good as he used to be and Donaire but the obvious pick to win.
