I think Bivol will KO Cleverly quite quickly. I would be very surprised if Cleverly's camp would be looking at this..

Cleverly vs. Bivol To Be Discussed Next Week With The WBA

Updated at 01:50 AM EDT, Sun Apr 16, 2017

According to Vadmin Kornilov, manager of WBA interim-light heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol (10-0, 8 KOs), they are going to speak with the World Boxing Association next week to discuss the mandatory fight with WBA "regular" champion Nathan Cleverly (30-3, 16 KOs).

This past Friday night, Bivol knocked down Samuel Clarkson three times en route to a fourth-round TKO in the main event of a Showtime televised card from MGM National Harbor in Maryland.

The WBA's "super" champion is Andre Ward, who defends that belt against Sergey Kovalev in a rematch on June 17th in Las Vegas.

Cleverly has yet to schedule his next fight, although there have been rumors of several opponents who are promoted by Sauerland Event.

The Welsh boxer has been out of the ring since last October, when he captured the title from Juergen Braehmer. There was a rematch clause in that fight, but Braehmer has yet to exercise that option. There could very well be a clause, where if Cleverly is not going to have a rematch with Braehmer - then he must face another Sauerland promoted fighter in his first title defense.

Kornilov and his fighter want to secure the fight with Cleverly as soon as possible.

"Dmitry was excellent. The television channel Showtime has expressed further interest in showcasing him. I hope Dmitry will develop his career on TV, because now he's had his debut on American television, and he surprised everyone. I was told by representatives of the media, a new star was born in the United States. This fight that Dmitry won was of great interest to everyone," said Kornilov to Basil Konov.

"The next step is the completion of the situation with the WBA title. Next week, we will be talking to the WBA and we'll negotiate the terms of the fight for the regular title."

Really can't see this happening. I could be wrong but I don't think Bivol has a powerful promoter behind him. If he was with uncle Al I could see Clev going over for the big payday
He's with Ryabinsky, who is a pretty big promoter in the scheme of things, and who can pay fairly well, but even so doubt Clev takes it, either way as long as the WBA strip him it's ok imo, no confidence in them to do that though

Clev since his gone back down has looked decent, but if he fights like he has been with that head first toe to toe shit with them pitter patter punches his gona get kovaleved again, in just a more systimatic and sustained way as Bivol seems to just break people down bit by bit. Good fight thought a good step up for Bivol and Clev is a big light heavy so should definatly pose some problems and should tell us where his at.

Ahhh, forgot Stashkov was Ryabinsky's man. Ryabinsky is basicalyl the Russian Haymon right?
He's richer and it's his own money. And he more or less runs the Russian version of the BBB of C.

I'm being anal but EVERYONE spells his surname wrong. It's Ryabinskiy.

Bivol has one hell of a engine, noticed at the end of his fight the other day he was hardly breathing despite throwing a lot of punches per round. Bivol doesn't throw his left hand much though, he's very right hand happy.

Does anyone know who beat Bivol in the amateurs? and Bivol's best wins?

Well, he has a problem. In 2011 he lost the final of the National championships against Maxim Koptyakov (75 kg) and this one was the boxer who tried to get a place in the Olympics without success (81 kg was Mekhontsev, gold in London). Later, in 81 kgs and in WSB he began to highlight.

By the way, Mekhontsev returns to the ring next month.

Could you shed some light on how he got his 'own' money?

As a Russian graduate i think you're probably right on the spelling although i think we may have transliterated it ii. But it's mainly a convention to translate the adjective type ending on names as y like in Dostoevsky.

@Boxingbarlow to be clear my intention wasn't to comment on the morality or otherwise of the source of Ryabinskiy's wealth, just to differentiate from the cash funding PBC, which is of course largely injected by investment funds.

So it's very different dynamic / level of independence to that suggested by @BoxingAnalyst :good

Cheers!

I asked him and his translator (he doesn't really need a translator) to clarify the correct spelling and he said Ryabinskiy so that's good enough for me

Fair play then. Must be a brilliant real estate dealer - no one in Russia had family wealth like trump - all self 'made' men. Bit like China though it's hard to tell who isn't state sponsored if anyone. His 'shareholders' may be no less demanding than al's
