One of the key reasons why I have supported the Haye-Chisora fight is that I believed it might have a positive knock on effect to shake up the BBBoC to become a more open and transparent body. Although, as this dispute deepens, I do not see any sign of that happening, rather the Board seem to have dug their heels in and tried to 'discourage' (to put it mildly) this card from taking place.

We all know there is the alphabet soup of world bodies, in Europe we have several bodies and recently the WBO European Title has followed. In this current Haye-Chisora impasse, it seems that the Luxembourg Board could be around to stay or perhaps another body in the UK could possibly be launched?

What are the pros and cons of having a rival professional licenced body operating in the UK?

I, like you, thought it might shake up the division and get them to sort their shit out. This doesn't look to be happening though.

It could set a precedent that further splits boxing rather than help unite it.

I would support any move to potentially make the board move forward and get with the times, but because boxing is so divided they don't really need to adopt a ''divide and conquer'' approach - just mention the possibility of a ban and people will get in line North Korea style.

Boxing isn't a team sport like cricket, where a while back all the top Australian players both international and domestic level basically united to bring down the board and give the players a say in how the game is run.... and even in an individual sense it's unlike darts, where most of the players were on tour together and generally on very friendly terms with the odd exception.

Boxers don't like each other, trainers don't like each other and promoters don't like each other.

Disagreed. Competition isn't always a good thing and doesn't always produce the best end product. The ABC belts all competing against each other is an example of this.
That's not an issue with competition, that's a lack of regulation. unfortunately, the most corrupt of all, the wbc, is supported by the British board.

Hopefully the board can adapt and move with trhe times but another governing body has a chance to kill the domestic scene. Having 4 plus world titles has done serious damage to the world scene in that the general fans can't be arsed to work out who is the real champ and this puts them off the sport to an extent, it gives boxers excuses not to fight each other or to build up a champonship resume feasting on fringe contenders or even lower levels of competition. The sanctioning bodies are all bullshit as well stripping guys for no reason, imposing fines to unfavourable fighters etc. If this happened at British level I think it would do detrimental damage.

Should we find some sensical board we should be pushing for one governing body in boxing imo. This method does have its problems as seen in other sports but overall it is far better than a divided sport and the bullkshit that goes with it.

This in a nutshell. Ideally competition could be a catalyst for positive change but I fear, boxing being boxing, that it will end up making a bigger mess of the situation.

I think competition is only a good thing if they compete on an even playing field. Luxembourg is a morally bankrupt puppet commission that is essentially for sale to the highest bidder. The BBBofC does need to change and be more progressive, but they won't do that in the face of the Luxbox people. They are more likely to be forced into sanctioning bouts that shouldn't be sanctioned to starve Luxembourg of it's power. i.e. They will sanction Danny Williams vs Evander Holyfield, just to stop them going to Luxembourg etc.

I think boxing as a sport needs great unity and structure, not more ambulance chasing suits looking for a dollar. I don't think the Haye Chisora fight should have been sanctioned at the time it was, and it's not a fight I'm excited about. I find it a bit embarrassing that boxing will have to endure a week of those two clowns trying to slag each other off to sell tickets in the build-up.

I think the climate is more favourable for the launch of a competitor to the BBBoC. Boxnation, Sky and Channel Five all have their own fighters and have no interest in having their fighters fight on each others channel, so more scenario's like the Price-Fury fall out is likely. I wouldnt be surprised if a WBO British title is launched or another entity launches rival a British title. I cant say I would be too bothered if it happened. It is clear, and it has always been the case that those who are well connected to a promoter with tv will get more favourable treatment with regards to title shots.

The small hall promoter and a large swathe of boxers who are not tied to a promoter with tv do not get as much opportunity, but they still have to pay expensive admin costs, licence fees etc. I think there is an underbelly of resentment within the boxing community and if more alternatives should be presented in the future I think it is not such a bad thing. Just like the ABCs on the world scene, those with money seem to always get the rub of the green with title shots, are on the right side of 'incompetent scorecords' or 'incompetent refereeing'. The origins of the house fighter is rooted in money, why should I have any loyalty towards an institution that continually upholds all of that bullshit.

There is plenty lads who are unfavoured or from a small hall type promoter who have won the British title. More than one belt would be seriously shit, people don't care about the world title too much these days because there are too many champions. If the same happened in Britian it would seriously hamper British boxing, people like to know who a champion is, not have loads of guys claiming to be champions but wont fight each other. Also the belt has a prestigious history and is something for young prospects to aim for on their way up the ladder or for guys who aren't going any further than that level to cap a career highlight with. Multiple titles will make the British title(s) as worthless as those shitty international weightlifter straps that are given away to just about anyone who wants them.

The BBBofC need to make some huge changes and get with the times but having multiple organisations will dilute an already diluted level (with so many decent boxers bypassing it altogether) and make it practically pointless in the long run.

Yeah, I am not saying that isnt the case, my point is that in the main the tv promoters appear to have more power and influence over these things because the Board will make a lot more money with them competing for the title than a small hall promoter. In fact, the view has been expressed by many boxers over the years, it is a common complaint in the trade. There is a view that you will find a significant amount of advantage in the favour of the promoter or boxer that is affiliated with tv, with regards to controversial title shots/incompetent judging/refereeing etc.

How many examples can you think of over the years where there has been an outcry due to a boxer or promoter (with no powerbase or tv backing i.e the small hall promoter/boxer) who has won a very controversial decision in a title fight, or benefitted from 'incompetent refereeing' or has gained a title shot ahead of another highly rated boxer? Boxing is determined by money, it is business first and a sport second and my belief is that it is the same for the Board, who after all are a Plc. Let's not fool ourselves that these issues are only confined to the ABCs. Am I the only one who is sick of this culture within boxing? Hence, my ambivalence to a competitor to the BBBoC, in fact the more I think about it the less problem I have with it.

I see your point mate and I do realise that the bigger promoters get a better shake of things in the boxing world but I'm not sure that another board would change anything other than pretty much have a British belt for Warren and another for Hearn. I doin't see the balance changing at all as a new board is likely to follow the same shit as the original board just as they have at world level.

Neither do I. But, if the BBBoC were serious about becoming a more inclusive body they would get their shit together and starting listening and acting to the concerns of their licence payers and the fans. There is zero transparency, I have no time for them. And the more I read about their chequered history the more hardened my view is...
