According to his attorney, IBF featherweight champion Billy Dib will not be defending his title on the December 1 undercard of Miguel Cotto vs. Austin Trout. Dib's attorney, Adam Houda, confirmed the news via his Twitter page. "Media Release: My client @TheRealBillyDib will not be fighting Dec 1 NY. It appears Billy has been caught in the cross-fire of boxing politics," Houda would write. Dib would retweet the message shortly afterwards to his own followers.

The Australian was scheduled to fight unbeaten, 19-0 (14 KO), Puerto Rican Jayson Velez.

Danny Jacobs is set to fight on the undercard but no other fights have been confirmed yet.

Showtime say no to Dib

Showtime's Stephen Espinoza, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports and Event Programming, denies that any politics or behind the scenes feuds were responsible for the network's decision to not approve Dib as the opponent for Velez.

"In describing this decision as a product of politics is ridiculous. This was a decision that was made based on what would result in the best programming...the most exciting fight for our viewers. I know that's a subjective evaluation and people can disagree with it but that was our determination. We don't make decisions on the basis of politics, on the basis of feuds between promoters or feuds between boxers. Our only goal is to get the best programming, and that's the single criteria that we use in determining which fights we are going to be presenting to our subscribers," Espinoza told BoxingScene.com.

Ponce de Leon vs Velez possible

One potential replacement for Dib, according to sources with knowledge of the details, is WBC featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon. De Leon is one of the candidates being considered and certainly a bigger opportunity for Velez. Regardless of the finalized replacement, BoxingScene was told that Velez would indeed remain in place as part of the Showtime card.
