For the second fight now Gealesy has No Mas quit after being able to get up, seemingly unhurt and able to continue. Where does he go from here?
To quit on the big stage twice now, does he have another title run in him?

I did surprise me that he didnt try to last out the round. I'm not sure how much was left in it? The GGG fight I was happy to take it at face value that as Geale said post fight, he was shaking his head with disappointment that he got caught with such a good shot.

Geale really didnt have Cotto's measure at all and lost all three rounds prior. He just wasnt able to connect and Cotto had no trouble doing so as Geale advanced looking for openings in Cotto's tight guard.

I've been a big fan of Geales but from here, I'd like to see him retire. He'd be sitting on some substantial coin from this and previous fights and now might be the time to cash out with health in tact.

With him quitting like that it makes me think he's also conscious of the health aspect. He has an 8 week old girl at home.

Its only a decision him (and his family) can make but I hope he gives it away and gets involved in the sport from outside the ring.

There was still just over a minute I think, but he bounced straight up. Just stay down or do the Zab Judah shuffle so the ref calls it if you have had enough, don't just bounce back up and say, no, had enough.
I actually reckon he could sneak another belt if managed right, but he is clearly not good enough for the top fights.
Maybeit's time to have one last farewell fight in tassie against a fringe top 50 to say goodbye to the fans and open up a gym and spend time with the kids.

Weight draining like that is a very dangerous no-no. He weighed in at 157 yet fought at 183 (?). The brain takes close to a week to rehydrate from that sort of dehydration. No excuses though, Cotto out boxed him, hurt him to the body and won the fight. Cotto was a beast.

He weighed 183 "in street clothes" as in fully dressed on the scales. Allowing for pants, shoes, shirt, jacket, watch etc etc, i'd say the most he weighed was 175. Which is not too bad, I do not think the 3 pounds is an excuse to quit on your feet. And storm off without giving an interview, for the second time

He could possibly get a WBO shot but I think he's just below the top level and fears being hurt. Might be time to hang em up train kids get involved in training amateurs or do something else. Enjoy his money with his family. Im gutted.:sad2

Geale Says He Wasn't 100% After Draining Down

Much was made over the 157-pound catch-weight for Saturday's middleweight title fight between WBC king Miguel Cotto and challenger Daniel Geale.

Geale struggled to get down to the weight and had the appearance of a severely drained fighter at Friday's weighin when he stepped on the scale and made weight. By the time of the fight, Geale had packed on a lot of weight. HBO's unofficial scale had him at 182-pounds (with street clothes) about an hour or two before the fight.

The extra weight made no difference. Geale was dominated, dropped twice and stopped in the fourth round.

While he makes no excuses, he admits his performance was affected by the struggle to get down in weight.

"I don't want to make excuses at all. We made the weight. It wasn't easy, it's never easy. I didn't feel 100% out there. Miguel Cotto is a great champion, a great fighter. He's one of the best fighters in the world. I'm not going to blame three extra pounds on what happened. I got caught and that's what happened," Geale said.

Geale's promoter, Gary Shaw, is still very opposed to catch-weight fights.

"I personally am still opposed to catch-weights in championship fights. I believe the champion can fight at whatever weight he wants to, as long as it's not over the limit of that weight class, but he shouldn't take that advantage and make that [challenger] technically not be in that weight class. Daniel is a true 160-pound champion. And he's honest, the last three pounds were really tough. But he rehydrated and he was who he was out there," Shaw said.

Yeah, I'm agreeing with you here, I just want to bring to light that with that amount of wasting the last part of the body to rehydrate is the brain, which will take closer to a week than a day to fully rehydrate. Geale lost, he did quit on his feet and never looked like troubling a rejuvenated Cotto. Heck, he was even out boxed by Cotto.
This dangerous fluid based weight cutting has to stop is what I'm saying.

I didn't see anything really making an excuse? he stated that it was hard to make weight, but he acknowledged that he agreed to it and that Cotto was the better fighter. That seems like a completely humble and modest statement as always from Geale.

Daniel was outclassed by Cotto.

I think the weight did have a lot to do with it as he looked considerably sharper against Golovkin.

I don't having a problem with quitting if you feel you can't offer any more, I mean why bother if you might end up in hospital.
A smart fighter knows when he's done.

Daniel has either lost the 'eye of the tiger', or the weight totally fucked him.
I suspect it might be a bit of both.

He's had a good career, well done to a good champ.

Props to Cotto too, he fought well, but I still think the catchweight thing for a belt is totally fucked up.
