Edit: Darren Barker will challenge IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York on August 17.

Original Post:

According to Steve Lillis writing his "Friday round up" for BoxNation - http://www.boxnation.com/boxing-news/steves-friday-round-up-17-05/

DARREN BARKER is looking likely to get his second world title tilt against Australian IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale in the United States on August 10.

American broadcaster HBO are expected to rubber stamp the deal over the weekend.
Cracking fight and great to have it on neutral grounds.

Its really a fight that could go either way.
I know, I think it will go Geale's way. There's a tendency for people to underrate Geale because he's perceived as being the weakest belt holder at MW but in truth he is a really well schooled fighter. I think he's better than Barker personally but I think the other 2 Brits might have a better chance

You could say the same thing about Barker though.

Yeh I think so by quite a few people. I guess you will think the opposite. In reality there isn't a fighter in the world that's not both lol
Well there's a difference between being underrated as a World Champion & being underrated as a contender. Geale has very good wins over Sturm, Sylvester and Karmazin but still doesn't get as much credit as he deserves. Apart from Martinez, who has Barker really fought? Spada is his best win for me and even in that he didn't completely shine against the Italian who was a bit over the hill IMO. Of course injuries have hindered him but he has yet to really prove himself so it's natural for people to have doubts about him. I don't consider the Hope win to be anywhere near as impressive as Sky were hyping it to be.

Sky's job is to hype things. As Boxing fans we complain all the time about the lack of publicity the sport gets but as soon as anything gets a bit of hype we go crazy!

Based on resumes no doubt Geale is superior. But actually watching both fight I think its quite even. I don't think theirs a fight Geale has won that Barker couldn't have got the same result, and I think Geale would have lost to that version of Martinez.

As I've just said to you in another thread, I've got no interest in going over the boring Sky/Boxnation or Matchroom/Frank arguments again. But Hope is a domestic level operator who got an unexpected win over Proksa- knocking him out was nowhere near as significant as Sky were making out.

Anyway this fight should be good and good luck to Barker

You brought up Sky mate? I was explaining why they would hype his win.
