London's James DeGale, 13-1 (9), could take on Edinburgh's Kenny Anderson,18-1 (13), on December 8 in a fight that would be televised on U.S. television network WealthTV. According to BoxingScene's sources, Anderson has agreed to the fight in principle and is waiting on confirmation from DeGale, who is now promoted by Mick Hennessy and featured on Channel 5 on October 13 - a hard-fought a decision win over Hadillah Mohoumadi in DeGale's first bout since parting company with Frank Warren. DeGale versus Anderson would be a compelling fight between two champions - "Chunky" is the EBU titlist and Anderson recently netted the vacant British belt by stopping Robin Reid in five-rounds on October 20.

However, both men currently sit behind Commonwealth title-holder George Groves, 15-0 (12), and IBF boss Carl Froch, 29-2 (21), in the British 168lb ratings. Both men have also lost to Groves - Anderson by sixth-round TKO and DeGale by majority decision - so their December meeting, should it happen, will give the victor more of a case for securing a return with the Londoner, although "Saint" George may decide to move on to bigger things should he secure a marquee win over former light-heavyweight world champion Glen Johnson on December 15.

DeGale, though, also has an EBU mandatory on his plate, the governing body have pencilled him in to defend the belt against Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye, their EBU-EU champion, on January 26. Still, EBU rule 6.1.4 states that: 'Except with the written authorisation of the E.B.U. Council neither a European Champion nor a Challenger for his title, whether Official or otherwise, shall box less than 28 days before he is due to box for a European title from the date of opening of the purse or from the date of a signed agreement, if the fight is scheduled by agreement,' therefore the 26-year-old 2008 Olympic gold medallist could put his belt on the line against the 29-year-old 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist - who is known as "The Widowmaker" and is rated at 16 in the EBU rankings - as long as a voluntary defence is ratified by the governing body as per their championship contest rules.

I can only imagine that DeGales tactics of laying back on the ropes and allowing his opponents to batter him will play right into Anderson's hands. I'm expecting a DeGale points victory though.

I'd be surprised if DeGale really wanted this - it's a big risk, he'd seriously not want a loss to a guy who was stopped by Groves, surely? I'd love it to happen, and for DeGale to get stopped, but I think DeGale would win it on points. However, I don't see it being made as does DeGale really need the risk for such limited reward? He'd struggle to stop Anderson faster than Groves did, a points win doesn't really move him forwards, surely DeGale will fancy an easier fight against an international opponent that doubles as a defence of his European title and keeps him in the world mix?
