Former Olympic champion James DeGale says he wants to take on Carl Froch in a "massive" British fight next year.

The super-middleweight made it 14 wins from 15 professional fights with a points victory over Fulgencio Zuniga on Saturday night.

He wants a shot at a world title in 2013 and he says a showdown with IBF champion Froch would suit both men.

"I'd love to fight Carl and for British boxing that would be a massive fight," he said. "If I can continue to progress and keep on winning, then it would make sense for us to fight.

"If everything goes right, I hope to fight for the WBC title next year, either as the mandatory against Andre Ward or for the vacant title if he decides to give it up.

"I think Carl would like a big domestic world title fight before he retires," DeGale added. "He didn't get it against Joe Calzaghe, despite years of trying, and hopefully he could get one against me.

"He's the sort of fighter who will fight anyone, he likes big fights, and if I can win a world title, that would make it a big fight."

Froch took to Twitter to give his response to DeGale's quotes, insisting his only concern right now was a potential rematch against Mikkel Kessler in 2013.

"I would happily fight @jamesdegale1 & @StGeorgeGroves ....on the same night! Just let me get the real fight done with @MikkelKessler first," he wrote on the social network.

I'd actually like to see this. DeGale needs to win 2 or 3 more fights at a slightly higher level but why not late next year? As DeGale says Froch always wanted a big domestic showdown with Calzaghe and promoted right this could be huge.

TBH he's a more worthy challenger then Mack, Not that that's saying much but i think it's a decent enough fight. Froch wins but DeGale spoke well didn't word it in a way which comes across arrogant i think he respects what Froch is about.

TBH Roe I don't see that Froch wanting to fight Calzaghe would mean he would want to fight DeGale. They are both domestic opponents but thats where the similarility (sp) ends from Frochs point of view. DeGale has nothing that Froch wanted from Calzaghe.

Yeah he's come across well there, basically saying he needs to earn his shot.

If he gets a couple of decent wins under his belt, works his way up and gets a win against a solid contender with a bit of a name like Mack, yeah it'd be a decent domestic matchup.

Though Froch has enough other fights to make before considering Degale. He's got Kessler, Ward and Bute rematches that could happen. Then there's Clev. Degale might struggle to get a fight with him before he retires.

Everything can change in an instant though.

Didnt Groves say something similar? Tbf I think out of the two DeGale matches up better to Froch, but both lose unless Froch declines significantly, I mean Groves is a very good boxer and can punch but Froch dropped him in sparring and I think Froch's toughness would grind Groves down.

I really rate Groves but I cant help feeling he seems a bit fragile? I can't put my finger on it and im not a chinchecker by any stretch but I always feel like he's one big shot from being KO'ed, seemingly for no reason at all

Fragile is a good way to describe him, or at least how he appears. That's not a huge knock at Groves at all because he's still growing and improving all the time but I definitely know what you mean there.

Harsh words from Froch on Twitter:

"Carl Froch ‏@Carl_Froch
I would happily fight @jamesdegale1 & @StGeorgeGroves ....on the same night! Just let me get the real fight done with @MikkelKessler first"

ye im not chucking an accusation of him having a weak chin at him, but it just seems, i dont know, like he reacts to every punch that lands quite a bit, not rocked as such, but like he doesnt trust his own chin so overcompensates by just getting desperate to get away from any more. Obviously that sounds stupid written down, everyone reacts to punches, and everyone tries to get away from more, but i dont know, just when something connects he seems to panic a bit, might just be me

Normally when these kinda fights are touted my first thought is that the underdog would get murderously raped but after a few moments consideration I can picture it being closer. With this fight I just see murderous rape. That's all I'm seeing here. Murderous rape. DeGale would get raped murderously.

Groves vs Froch would be an easier sell if he can stay undefeated imo too. He, too though, would have his anal cavity torn apart by Carl's murderous penetrations in my humble opinion.

 DeFail is a truly awful fighter, Froch would tear through him in under 2 rounds. DeFail has nothing, literally nothing, to concern Froch and never will have,

Fair play, at least he is being respectful and saying he has to earn his shot. He wouldn't stand a chance but at least he is aiming high.

I'm warming to Degale now he isn't being a massive cunt constantly.

I'd only consider this a likely hometown send-off fight for Froch if he gets a Ward rematch and loses again. Probably wouldn't want to go out on the back of that, so going back to Notts' for one last big, domestic and very winnable fight to mark his career may be a possibility. Right now I don't think it's anywhere on Froch's radar.
