add any bits of interesting trivia or 'did you know..' that you might have...

..............................

did you know, the oldest ages of participants in a boxing match ??...

from boxrec via the new york times -

They fought for the farcical "Whiskerweight Championship of America." (Jubb was 92 & Brown was 80.) They boasted "whiskers of the Kentucky colonel type and through the four rounds both vainly tried time and again to reach the button. Round one found octogenarians waving like palm trees in the gentle ocean breeze." Brown floored Jubb's false teeth in the third stanza. By the end of the bout "both aspirants were locked in an embrace on the floor [after falling during a clinch] as 2,000 tourists cheered.... Charles W. Eldridge, the referee, 101 years old, declared the battle a draw." New York Times

Jonhhy Owen R.I.P. for his fight against Lupe Pintor was paid just £13,000 (might be dollars, can't remember) which was less than Jimmy Wilde got for his last fight some 57 years later
this reminds me of iran barkley talking about how after the duran fight, which was fight of the year in 89...that duran went on to a 10 million dollar payday against leonard, and he (he claims) fought micheal nunn and got 6,000 dollars.

jewish boxer al mccoy was the very first southpaw champion ever.
...in 1915 he ko'd george chip in 54 seconds of round 1 with a one-punch ko....described by one reporter as "His one-punch knockout of Chip was called the most sensational accident since Columbus discovered the New World."
but...in 6 defences of his world title, he lost 5 decisions and drew once and won none (although he had a lot of non-title fights in this time too)....but..remained world champion all the time !!...it was an era where a champion had to be knocked out if he were to lose his title.
he was eventually ko'd and lost his title to mike o'dowd in 6 rounds.
