I was listening to an interview on Buncey's Boxing Podcast with this guy, Dillian Whyte, who I'd never heard of before.

Whyte is 9-0 as a pro and in a 2009 amateur bout he knocked down and beat future Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua on points (for KD watch from 02:55).

In 2012 Whyte was banned for using a supplement that contained a controlled substance (methylhexaneamine). The stimulant was contained in a nutritional supplement called Jack3D, a product removed from UK shelves later on that year. In 2013, a tribunal accepted Whyte's claim that he did not knowingly take the substance but rejected his appeal against the ban on the grounds that he did not do enough to check the supplement's ingredients.

In his first time in the ring since October 2012, Whyte is scheduled to fight this Saturday (21[SUP]st[/SUP] November 2014) against unknown Croatian Ante Verunica (3-1-1).

Now, the fight with Joshua may have been 5 years ago when Anthony was only 18 but I wanted to put this one on your radars as the interview certainly had my interest piqued.

For those that know him, could Whyte be another promising prospect?

Doesn't really matter looking at Joshua's physique he took the same supplement
True

I'm more talking about when he was banned. I know nothing of their physiques as amateurs.

He lit Joshua up and talked to him like he was his bitch.

Like to see more of this guy, all those fellows are on some illegal enhancements, whether or not you want to recognize that is another deal.
I don't think they like each other very much...they had to be separated/talked to when they were in camp together as sparring partners for Wlad.

Jack 3d is not banned I got a bunch of it.
A few news sources say it's banned but I've seen posters on various forums say they've got some or seen it for sale. My guess is that the original recipe is banned and the stuff sold now is made without the stimulant in question.

Interesting stuff. Thanks. I found an article where Whyte's giving his version of events:

https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/boxing/news/whyte-calls-out-joshua_188953.html

"He's so insecure and so jumpy about losing to me. When anyone tries to ask him about it, he says 'it was 10 years ago, I was only beaten by one point'. It wasn't 10 years ago, and I didn't win by one point. I won unanimously and I knocked him down.

We fought a while ago and as far as I was concerned that was it. Even when he was in the Olympics, I was supporting him, saying there was no way he could lose. But then a couple of months ago he ripped some stuff about me to the press.

We were out in Austria at a training camp and I pulled him up on it. I said to him 'listen, we definitely have to fight again because I don't like what you said and, where I come from, people can't say things like that about other people. We're professionals so let's settle it in the ring. I just hope we do get to fight because I think it's a good fight for Britain. I'll be ready by January."

Going by records Whyte is like 10 levels below Joshua right now
Yeah. My feeling is that him calling out Joshua is blatant opportunism but if he's actually any good then it could at least be something a bit different (narrative wise) from Joshua's usual fights.

But only if Whyte gets at least some Sprott, Airich or even Bakhtov level wins I think literally all of his opponents so far have losing records I think

Definitely, I'll be following his next few fights with interest.

Way too much is made of Whyte beating a green as grass Joshua back in the Jurassic era. He hasn't exactly looked like an atg in the making so far, but that said, he is a big threat. Massive power and reasonably capable. Would love to see a huge domestic clash between him and Joshua late next year.

Thought I'd bump this thread instead of starting a new one because the last line of my first post is still the question I'm asking:

"Could Whyte be another promising prospect?"

Despite everything that's happened in the last year or so, how do you rate him? Where do you think he sits in the heavyweight hierarchy?

I don't think he's ever going to beat Joshua now, although if he does exceedingly well then a rematch could be of interest. I also don't put him in the bracket of Fury, Klitschko, Wilder or Povetkin. But in the Joshua fight he certainly showed a chin and actually quite a nice defense and shot choice.

When you look at the breath of fresh air that is the new HW prospect scene there's actually quite a few tasty match ups I'd like to see Whyte involved in. So, despite his last loss how do you see him progressing (if at all)?

I think he'll end up a fringe contender/gatekeeper. He has a decent jab, a solid chin and good power but his stamina is an issue, he was breathing harder than Joshua in round 3 and faded badly due to a combination of this and Joshua raising his game.

If he gets his conditioning sorted out and becomes more than just a 3-4 round fighter then he could be dangerous.

I was gutted come Joshua fight night. In the build up Whyte posted this photo

and I thought, "damn, this guy has taken camp seriously. Looks like hes going to base his gameplan on movement (which I think is the best way to beat Josh), try and take Joshua into the late rounds"

Come fight night he was weighing in at 250lbs carrying a michelin tyre around his waist
