I suppose Mathebula's height could potentially give him a challenge he hasn't really faced before. I expect Nonito to win obviously, but if he needs an aggressive opponent for him to look good then people will probably be disappointed again.

I want him to fight Rigo but I doubt it would be a great fight, just want it to happen regardless

He needs to win the Rigondeaux fight for me to be a true great at his weight, as I feel Rigo is a much much better fight than him.

Rigondeaux would more than likely decision Donaire as his reflexes are that much better though. I'd love to see that fight.

A true great, even at 122lbs, with wins over Mathebula, Vasquez Jr and Rigo? I'm not sure.

I agree that Rigondeaux-Nonito is the one to make. Winner fights Nishioka :yep

Donaire talking about Salido... Interesting enough fight.

"We have Salido, we have all these other guys at 126 that we're willing to face. I think that's going to be an incredible fight, and I think that Salido is one of the guys that's going to push myself to the limit."

Donaire was then asked how he saw a hypothetical fight would transpire between them.

"You never know what the outcome of the fight [may be]," Donaire said. "I've seen Salido go down a few times, and I think I can make that happen, but he always gets up, and he's always breaks people down. But I'm really one of those guys that have a heart that's hard to break."

Was just literally about to post that Wallet, Salido is just too big for Nonito IMO, Salido is wreck less though and would walk onto Donaire's shots, but the question would be has Donaire got the power to keep him off, I don't think so.

I think Salido's punch resistance is waning. I'd expect Nonito to catch him with shots he doesn't see and bamboozling him to a stoppage.

Essentiallya super feather Vs a lightweight, I like it.

Ignore the "At the weight" bit. He needs to fight Rigondeaux, Agbeko (possibly shot), Mares and maybe a fighter like Salido£ He has the skills but not sure about the size required.. Actually after his last few drab performances I'm starting to worry about his skills too!

It's not the performances that leave me feeling underwhelmed with Donaire, it's the opponents being selected in the first place. I understand why a fight with Mares didn't happen, but Donaire left bantamweight and it felt to me that he hadn't really established himself as outstanding there. The move to 122lbs just seems like a hollow exercise in adding another "world" title in another weight class. Vazquez, Jr isn't a bad first fight at the weight if you ignore the "world" title claims attached to it, but I'd prefer to see him moving on.

If Top Rank aren't going to try to make a fight with Nishioka or Rigo - or even Arce just as it'd be a fun fight at least - then I'm not really bothered. He's not a fighter who grabs my interest enough for me to watch against just any opponent, and I'm not really interested in this fight.

This forum feels like the Brit forum that made me want to register at ESB in the first place. I'm glad that the ban happy yank mods didn't split up a good boxing fan community!

Thanks for the contributions so far lads, I never bought into the hype (resisted, perhaps unfairly, although mainly to those picking Donaire over old timers) and then became a fully-fledged member, but as a fan I've been disappointed with both the opponents and the performances, seems like Nonito is happy to dominate, proving how much better he is than those in front of him, but is unwilling/unable to create openings for himself and score the finishing blows.

Admittedly against pretty negative IMO (Narvaez especially so) and it might just be that he's had two underwhelming performances back-to-back, which in the two fights a year era seems totally forgivable when placed under the microscope.

But then he's barely had any rounds taken off him. Thing is, don't think this is the opponent to change this run and I'm unwilling to watch him starch gung-ho Arce because he's a 'titlist' at the weight :patsch

I really wanted to see Donaire-Gamboa, and after the JuanMa fight fell through I reckon Bob would've looked to make it sooner rather than later. 2013 is out the window now Yuriorkis has fucked his career up. Shame.
