Enzo Maccarinelli has admitted he wants an all-Welsh showdown with Nathan Cleverly - but has first set his sights on a rematch with Ovill McKenzie.

The last time Maccarinelli and McKenzie went toe-to-toe was back in November, when the Swansea-born star was robbed of the chance to add the only belt missing from his collection when the fight was halted by referee Ian John-Lewis in the second round - much to the bemusement of Maccarinelli, his team and the watching crowd.

I think Enzo should get another chance at Ovill, shocking stoppage last time. Would Cleverly give him a chance, possibly, but I don't get excited by that fight at all.

I'd still rather see Cleverly vs Maccarinelli than another Karpency/Krasniqi type defence for WBO czar Clev. At least it has a domestic edge to it.

That said, I'd be surprised if Ovill doesn't stop Enzo again when they next meet.

I think that any British referee is going to be too concerned for Enzo's welfare to let him take any sort of punishment. The dude has something like 5 or 6 highlight-reel-worthy knockout losses on his record.

I think he does deserve a McKenzie rematch as that stoppage was pretty horrible but even in the wacky world of the WBO no way should that set him up for a world title shot. Although to be fair given how disgraceful his chin/punch resistance is nowadays it’s near enough nailed on that Ovil will leave him flat on his back at some point anyway …

Yeah, I agree tbg. The McKenzie stoppage was bad but he wasn't winning that fight, would have been caught at some point even if he had some success before then.

Being brutally honest I never thought Enzo was much in the first place anyway. A classic FW world champion: having his belt handed to him without winning it in the ring and then defending it against a bunch of ‘has beens’ and ‘never weres’, while the publicity machine fooled people into thinking he was some kind of big punching monster. At best he had a half decent dig at CW but given the level of opposition he was facing at times I could’ve had as good a KO record as his.

Seems like a personable enough guy though from interviews I’ve seen with him and I did enjoy his commentary work on boxnation. He should stick to that nowadays rather than getting his brains scrambled again and again in the ring.
