Those "Celebrity Boxing" shows were always a hoot to watch. It showed how little most people know about the "Sweet Science" and how awkward most people really are in a fight.

I'm sure to them they were a carbon copy of Ali/Frazier at Madison Square Garden but looked more like 2 schoolgirls with pillows on their hands.

As for real boxing shows, I loved watching the old live boxing shows on Friday Nights that came to our 19 inch black and white TV from Madison Square Garden and sponsored by Gillette in the late 50's to early 60's. Quality time spent with my dad and Uncle John who was a Fleet Champion at lightweight when in the Navy during WWII.

Watching boxing with your dad is one of those great growing up things.

Especially since he died in 61 right between him turning 35 and me getting ready to turn 9. After that I'd watch the fights on my own at home or with my Uncle John (JP) as he was called when at their house.

Also loved to catch the fights on ABC's Wide World Of Sports on Saturday afternoons. This was long before fights of ANY importance became PPV events and only some of the very biggest fights were shown in theaters, bars and arenas as closed circuit events.

Sad you lost your father so early but I'm sure you still have great memories of sitting there watching fights and him explaining a few things and sharing together the excitement of close fights.
