The robbery of Roy Jones jnr in Seoul to Park Sin Hun changed the points system of the amateur game

The tragic fight between Duk Koo Kim and Ray Mancini changed the sport in many ways leading to 12 round bouts as opposed to 15, stricter pre-fight medicals and adding an extra rope onto the ring.

I'm pretty sure when I read Ruben Carters book he said he had some input into changing the way the ropes were hung as well (although I could be off with this one).

What else?

Back in 1884 Boston Tom McMustache punched Haypenny McSwiggan into a two-year coma with his patented "punch punch", which was a punch designed to mimic the effect of a tool called a blacksmith's punch. Boston Tom was too popular for his signature blow to be banned during his active career, but after he finally retired the punch punch was forever banned from the list of punches it was legal for a puncher to punch with.
