Seem to remember some talk from Gavin a few years ago about how he would fancy this fight (think he was about 7-0ish at the time).

I believe they fought in the AMs several times too.

How do you see it going? Still to early for Gavin? Or a good fight to bridge the gap from British to say Euro level?

Personally, I think he's the style that Gavin likes and think he'll comfortably outbox to a decision. Its a good fight at the right time IMO

Cant see it happening but would be a good learning fight, doubt he'll get Aydin out of there and could be tough at times but a good W to have on his record.

I've called for this fight for a while, not only did he beat him in the ams, but he has a style Gavin will enjoy and is a decent name at world level to beat, but Gavin could easily have the British outright by October if he wanted, dont know why he'd wait around

It might be too early for Frankie, but at this point it's a risk he needs to take. He's 27 and 4 years in to his career as World amateur gold medalist and he's still languishing around Brit level whereby I'm not even certain he'd beat the likes of Vassell.

I understand the Lonsdale belt is a prestige title for boxers to win outright, but guys like Gavin and Price are fast closing in on 30 and sitting around defending it against fringe domestic level guys like Welborn, Harrison, Skelton purely to win it outright and wasting time. It shouldn't get in the way of progress.

That said, I think if Gavin can defend his belt against the likes of Vassell and Matt Hatton, he'll actually be progressing and learning and stepping up on his way to winning it outright. I think if he's gonna do that though, it should be by September and the time he turns 28. Then he can squeeze a 4th fight in right at the end of the year which could be somebody like Aydin, putting him hopefully in a position where he can look to keep similarly active in 2013 against fringe world opposition and try and earn himself a title shot at the end of next year.

They did indeed fight in the amateurs. Gavin has said on boxrec that he managed to really frustrate the slow foot Aydin with his style. I have a funny feeling that Aydin started wrestling with Gavin out of frustration and got DQ'd though I may be wrong with that.

Aydin: "...I can't give you names because I don't care a lot about my opponents. I only care about myself and my performance. One name I recall is Frankie Gavin from the UK. He cost me my world amateur championship title. I have always been better than him but because of stupid politics he got a win over me he didn't deserve. I was so fed up with amateur boxing that I turned professional immediately while he went on to become world champion. I should have won that title. I heard that he is pro now, too. I hope to meet him in the ring someday to get revenge for the amateur title he stole from me.

"There are rumors about me hitting referees which are simply untrue. I never hit a referee. I may have pushed one but that's all. I cannot stand injustice. And in amateur boxing very often politics influence decisions and fight results. When I fought Frankie Gavin the way he ran away from me and only clinched when he should have been fighting just made me furious. I chased the guy through the ring and was clearly the aggressor in the fight. Still he led on points and I couldn't understand that. I screamed at him that he should fight like a man and I unloaded my frustration but I didn't hit a referee. I was suspended because of political reasons..."

Safe to say Aydin would want the fight!
