Just seen this on sky sports. Thoughts?

Andrew Flintoff has announced plans to become a professional boxer.

The former England cricket captain will be trained by Barry McGuigan and intends to make his pro debut in Manchester in November.

Flintoff's preparations will be filmed for a television documentary, and he said: "This is an amazing opportunity to try a sport that I love, to be tutored by a man I respect and admire and, at the age of 34, the chance to become a professional sportsman again.

"It's a huge challenge - probably the biggest I have ever undertaken, especially in such a short time-frame. I have a long road ahead and a lot of work in front of me. The stakes are high."

But Flintoff is yet to be granted - or even to apply for - a British Boxing Board of Control licence, according to the organisation's general secretary.

Robert Smith said: "An application can take three to four weeks or longer depending on the circumstances. He will have to pass medicals and there are measures in place to see whether an applicant can actually box."

I read that the documentary will be on SKY but the fight will be on Boxnation, which is interesting.

Should be a decent little attraction on an undercard somewhere. Has he ever boxed though? I know that the England cricket setup do some boxing training but apart from that... :conf

Yeah it's just been confirmed for boxNation.

I'm not convinced he'll get a BBBoC license tho. He was forced to retire from Cricket with an injured knee after all

An open letter to Freddie Flintoff!
I am a fan of you as a cricket player and a personality but if you wish to box you should do it against a legitimate challenger to prevent boxing being devalued to know nothing casual fans. I would be both able and willing to provide that challenge, I am 3-0 as an amateur and would turn up prepared to win. If you are a fan of the sport you would except the challenge from a proper contender rather than fight a 'bum' or 'journeyman' who's been payed to lose. I can be contacted from North Shields A.B.C.... Regards Fergal 'Iceferg' Allonby
