Radio Rahim has an in-depth interview with Hall Of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, in which they discuss Julio Cesar Chavez, Manny Pacquiao, Bob Arum, 50 Cent and Amir Khan. Freddie issues a telling warning to Amir Khan. Courtesy of SecondsOut.com

"I wish you the best Amir but stay away from punchers, and my guys are punchers"

"My guy was the stronger and better guy in there"

Fuck off Freddie, give Sergio some credit, stop talking shit. JCC was clearly not the better guy in there by a damn mile.
I've not watched the interview yet, but didn't Roach get interviewed mid-rounds saying he didn't reckon JCC Jr could catch up with Sergio and that he wasn't good enough to stop him?

He said that he didn't know and that he needed to let his hands go.

It's just a bit arrogant of him to say "He could have done that in the sixth round". Well, no he couldn't, because Sergio outboxed him and wasn't there to be pressured.

Exactly. Sergio just decided to get his balls out in the last round and start swinging with JCC. If I was Sarmiento I would've bollocked him after the fight, but you could tell during the build up that Serg' wanted to paste Jr, he didn't want to "run away" all night. Martinez wasn't afraid to engage him during the fight, but in the end proved far too mobile for Jr to tee off on. The problem is I think Serg' thought he could actually beat Jr in a toe-to-toe battle, which he can't (I mean, he's a 190lbs monster FFS).

To be fair to Roach i dont think Junior let his hands go during the Martinez fight and could have had more success if he had done. Part of that is because Martinez footwork had him perplexed but even early Chavez looked a bit to respectful of his opponent and a bit too wary as well. Its certainly not the way he usually fights. But he didn't so its daft to say he was a stronger and better considering he lost 34 minutes of the 36 in the fight.

If he let his hands go earlier he would've got stopped. The reason he wasn't letting his hands go was because whenever he tried he was getting punched in the gob. There's a difference between letting them go in the 4th round to letting them go in the 12th when you have nothing to lose.

I understand that but he was pretty much beaten by the 7-8th and should have started to let go then really
