If Bernard Hopkins wants to fight Carl Froch, the IBF light heavyweight champion will need to come down to a catch weight to make it happen.

Froch expressed interest in boxing Hopkins on a conference call Wednesday to discuss his super middleweight championship rematch against Mikkel Kessler on May 25 in London. The British star also made it perfectly clear that he has no intention of moving all the way up to 175 pounds for a shot at the 48-year-old legend.

"I've heard that," Froch said, referencing Hopkins publicly talking about fighting him. "I look up to Bernard Hopkins. I think he's a great ambassador for the sport. I think he's been around too long, but he's still doing it, so you can't knock him for it. And one day, in the future, it would be an honor to fight somebody like that. I feel I know how to beat him, but it's one step at a time.

"But I'll tell you now, I'm not a light heavyweight, so he's going to have to come down to a catch weight. I don't expect him to come down to super middle, but don't expect me to do light heavyweight."

The 35-year-old Froch (30-2, 22 KOs) and the 34-year-old Kessler (46-2, 35 KOs) will square off in an HBO "World Championship Boxing" main event May 25 from a sold-out O2 Arena. Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KOs, 2 NC) is scheduled to make a mandatory defense of his IBF 175-pound crown against Germany's Karo Murat (25-1-1, 15 KOs) on July 13 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Obviously he has to come through Kessler but it's interesting he's saying he's not a light heavy. If that's the case then maybe some of the fights speculated about, such as Cleverly & Pascal may be a pipe dream.

i've said it before and i'll say it again, don't touch that spoiling old cunt with a bargepole, it's a lose lose.

That said, all this is starting to reek of an incoming upset by mr kessler, everyone seems to be looking past him.

He's not a huge super-middleweight at all, moving up in weight to take on a crafty legend like Hopkins would be a bad move unless he's confident he could turn the trick.

'Nard would take Froch's jab away.

If Froch makes 168 sooooo easy maybe he could meet triple G at 164 :bbb
I don't think Froch would have anything to fear from the little fella tbh
Yeah I think Froch would beat GGG actually. He would box smart sort of how he did against AA. No point in a catchweight though since Golovkin claims he'll meet anybody from 154 - 168.

good fight, I think GGG is the shit but I'd favour my boy Carl here, hes tough enough to take GGG power and is big enough and has a decent long game to take a points win. GGG against almost anyone else around the weights and I'd favour him

Froch isn't in a position to be calling the shots in this case. B-Hop can fight anyone he wants.

No point bitching over a few pounds if you think you could take a scalp like that. Horrible fight for Froch stylistically though. Hopkins would win I reckon.
