When asked about who he will be fighting at Wembley on March 9 (alongside Purdy-Jones):

"I'm looking at someone fringe world level to help Darren get back. I'm looking at Sergio Mora, Brian Vera, Elvin Ayala, Serhiy Dzinziruk. These sort of top 10 fighters."

Goes on to say he likes the Barker-Lee fight for the summer, but won't happen next.

Says after this he'll be ready for a Macklin/Lee/World title fight after this one.

None of those guys are actually top 10, are they? I think that Dzinziruk is fighting soon anyway in the US, so he probably won't be available.
He's supposed to be fighting Vera actually, so that's probably those two tied up. Ayala wouldn't have been bad a couple of years ago but I haven't seen him since he got blown out by Lemieux. Haven't seen Mora for a while either, wonder how he'd fair at 160. As you said though, none of those guys are actually top 10, be in 154 or 160. Guess he's still kind of working his way back though. Hopefully he'll get somebody like this who'll take him rounds, then Lee or Macklin in the summer, then hopefully a title fight at the end of the year if he comes through that (and isn't injured).

You have to feel for Barker, he did an ok job against Martinez and deserved to build on that. Poor guy with all those injuries. But hopefully Hearn can get him some decent opponents and another shot.

No chance. "Fringe world level" is a closer assessment.

Dzinziruk fights next week against Brian Vera.

Well it is a bank holiday weekend so it may not be all that unlikely. Still doubt it though.
Could have meant the Froch-Kessler won't be on 'til the early hours? Maybe to accommodate US TV? Highly unlikely though.

He said date was TBC anyway, but it seems they've kind of gone on the 25th and will work around that. Surely can't be the same night as the CL final though? Especially if it's at the O2 and the footie is at Wembley?

I guess it could be the 25th and Sky could perhaps use the CL final to further advertise and hype the fight. But the final/trophy presentation won't be finished til gone 10pm so there's not really enough time to start the boxing show if it's on sky box office. They wouldn't be able to start til half 10 at earliest and that seems far too late realistically.

Then there's the even bigger problem of getting permission from the local authorities to host a separate big European sporting event in London on the same night. With Policing costs for the final etc, I doubt they'd be able to do this.

And of course the even bigger problem is Chas & Dave already booking out the O2 arena for the Saturday before!

I'm warming to Sunday night Boxing..

This, word by word. I'm gutted that he was made to sit out of the sport for so long with his injuries, he put on a decent show against Sergio and couldn't capitalise on it. I don't think another title shot will be too far away if he gets another couple of decent wins, though.

Erick Ochieng's step forward after "going stale" at English title level will be...

An English title defence against Terry Carruthers.

Still a good fight. You can't always get what you want. Where does Ochieng go upwards in all reality? Rose just signed with Matchroom and sells a few tickets in Blackpool and the like, Hearn isn't going to sacrifice either Rose or Ochieng in a match-up against each other, and Rose should be on to bigger and better things. That leaves Sam Webb - who is technically retired - and Liam Smith, who is going to be difficult to get in the ring based on promotional issues.

That said, shitty fight for Barker. This is nowhere near fringe world class, and probably a step backwards in all actuality from Hope. Proksa woulda been good. I'm glad it's not Mora, though.
