The best fight this weekend as far as I'm concerned, seems to have been getting slept on a bit.
Two of the top 3(top 2 depending on where you have Moruti Mthalane) dudes at flyweight clashing in a unification and two fighters who's respective careers have followed a relatively similar path up to this point. Both appeared as though they would never reach the heights that their talent suggested until recent impressive runs of form have swayed people's outlooks to more positive ones.
Marquez was a pretty highly-touted up-and-comer at 112/115 pounder before becoming derailed in consecutive defeats against Richie Mepranum and Nonito Donaire in 2010. Despite his stock being at an all-time low(as it would be) he rebounded from that by coming out on top in 2011's fight of the year against Luis Concepcion and building upon that with 4 more wins(including a more conclusive victory over Concepcion in a rematch and capturing vengeance over Mepranum) that have established him as one of the best at the weight.
Viloria's been around longer(being 7 years older will do that. Science, eh?), with his defeats(Romero, Sosa, Tamara) being spaced out over the course of like 3 years. Nevertheless he built his name right back up recently by beating Julio Cesar Miranda and (namely)Giovani Segura. He also beat Romero in a rematch which I think is his only fight of 2012 thus far.
Anyhow, this fight is the shit in my considered opinion. Call it, suckas.
