Legit champion Sergio Martinez, looks like he may be on the way out at 38 years of age and injuries catching up with him. Reportedly he'll be out for the rest of 2013 and may never be the same again following a hard fight with Martin Murray and some difficult moments against Chavez, Macklin and Barker before.
WBA belt holder Gennady Golovkin looks a real talent and his upcoming fight with Matthew Macklin on June 29th should prove a lot, about both boxers. That's undoubtably GGG's toughest test to date and it's a real chance for Macklin to prove his worth at the top end of the division.
IBF titlist Daniel Geale is back in action in July apparently and could face Darren Barker. That's a good matchup between two top ten middleweights if it gets made.
Peter Quillin holds the WBO belt, and looks decent, although he's recently admitted he isn't quite ready to step up to elite level which is a shame.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr returns on July 13 in a catchweight fight against Brandon Vera. It's a shame Chavez couldn't just make the fight at the middleweight limit rather than the 164 lbs it's been set at, but it's still good to have JCC Jr back in the mix somewhere.
It's unclear what's next for Britain's Martin Murray. Promoter Ricky Hatton doesn't have a consistent tv deal and not many may want to face Murray after his great effort against Martinez at the weekend.
Sam Soliman was recently suspended after failing a drugs test following his decision win over Felix Sturm. Not sure what's going on with Sturm but he didn't looked that bad in recent fights against Zbik, Geale and Soliman and is still a force.
Elsewhere the likes of Jermain Taylor, Andy Lee, Marco Antonio Rubio, Hassan N'Dam and Grzegorz Proksa are all on the cusp of title shots and big fights in the coming months.
