Very good question.

I watched 'Assault in the Ring' the other day for the first time. I then watched the actual fight with some weird commentating from Lamotta and his bird (!).

He looked good, Arum rated him apparently. Was he being groomed as a Duran opponent? Possibly. It'll take someone with far more knowledge of the 80s scene than me to answer the question accurately though.

don't know much about Collins to be honest I know he beat Harold brazier on pts in a six rounder when both were I think inside the first ten fights of their respective career's . resto had at the time of their contest gone into the journeyman bracket ,arum must of thought collins was pretty good to promote him but whether that was due to a special talent or a decent level of skill coupled with white irish/American media appeal I don't know . but considering there was hardly any padding in resto's gloves and inbetween rounds Collins told his father he felt like he was getting hit with bricks and was asked if he wanted to quit he declined to stay on his stool and gutted it out to finish the fight. showed he was a tough/brave kid, too tough/brave really for his own good but to say he would of won a world tittle or not I don't think anyone can really say as he never really fought at a world level
