One fight I'm definitely looking forward to is this

Marco Huck vs. Ola Afolabi III on June 8th in Berlin
Posted by: Boxing Clever on 4/28/2013 .

It is now clear: the trilogy fight between WBO champion Marco Huck (35-2-1, 25 KO's) and interim titlist Ola Afolabi (33 years, 19-2-4, 9 KO's) will take place in Berlin on June 8th at the Max-Schmeling-Halle. Both opponents first fought in December 2009, and Huck won a close fight with scores of 115:113, 115:113 and 116:112. In April 2012, they met again in Erfurt and fought to a twelve round draw (114:114, 114:114 and 115:113).

Sauerland Event, who promote Huck, secured the rights to the fight after Don King, who won the purse bid, was unable to finalize the event within the required time period.

Sauerland Event General Manager Chris Meyer stated - "Once that was clear, we quickly reached an agreement with Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, who represents the interests of interim champion Ola Afolabi, on the event date. The championship fight is on June 8 and it will be held in Berlin. Huck vs. Afolabi III will be shown live on ARD."

Huck wants to set the record straight on home soil.

"Ola Afolabi is indeed a tough one. Yet again he will make my life very difficult. In Berlin, I will set the record straight," Huck said.

Annoyingly, I'm in Berlin the weekend before this on a stag do. Bit gutted.

Should be a great fight though, one I've been looking forward to for some time.

Huck vs. Afolabi III presser gets heated

There is definitely no love lost. Britain´s Ola Afolabi (19-2-4, 9 KOs) did say he would hug and shake hands with his opponent Marco Huck (35-2-1, 25 KOs) after their WBO Title Fight on June 8 at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, Germany - but the attending members of the press were not really convinced after the pair´s previous war of words during Monday's press conference.

Before Afolabi started his attempt to calm things down, current WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco "Captain" Huck and the Interims Titlist were involved in a heated exchange of words. The first one to trade verbal blows was the 28-year-old German. "Afolabi is starting to get on my nerves. I beat him in December 2009. After I fought Alexander Povetkin for the WBA Heavyweight Crown, it was difficult for me to find the right motivation for my rematch with Afolabi in May last year. However, I believe that I actually won that bout, even though it was scored as a majority draw. That won't happen again. I will win in my own backyard. We won't be playing cat and mouse anymore. This will be a war - I won't be holding back."

That was the cue for Afolabi to start his own rant. "Huck shouldn't be able to call himself world champion anymore. In my opinion, he lost on three previous occasions. He lost against Lebedev, he lost against me and also against Arslan. He should only be able to call himself German Champion or Champion of Berlin," said the 33-year-old. The Brit stated that he is planning to humiliate Huck in front of his own fans. "I would be ready to take him on this weekend." Then Afolabi directed his next words directly towards Huck. "Everybody knows that I have always been a good technician, but now my fitness level is also excellent. I will seriously hurt you come June 8. You will need a wheelchair after the fight," said the Los Angeles based cruiserweight.

It is obvious that there is a lot of tension in the air, also partially due to the duel between the two most popular and respected coaches of German boxing. Once again Ulli Wegner (Huck´s coach) and Fritz Sdunek (works with Afolabi) will stand in opposite corners.
Hope this is going to spark this fight, not that it needs it. A little spice added would be good but maybe just hype, hope it ain't tho.

Glad to see that Ola accepts his stamina needed work, that seemed to let him down in the second Huck fight. Saying that, I'd imagine the majority of Cruisers would've struggled with the pace towards the end of that fight and the amount of punishment dished out and taken by both men.

Afolabi deserved the nod in the second fight, guaranteef he'll get the job done this time around
I don't think he did tbh. He started off boxing well before letting Huck in the fight. Once Huck gains momentum he becomes much harder to outbox, even though he's the same rugged brawler. It was a close fight though and there wasn't much in it.

Ola made adjustments for the second fight, but didn't seem capable of making adjustments in the fight; probably not helped by poor stamina. I'm not sure he can better that last performance. It's easy to get carried away by the fight with Arslan, but Huck's the same fighter he was last year.

I'm going with Huck down the stretch in another close fight. Wouldn't mind Ola winning to set up a fourth/rubber match though.

I'm not gonna argue on an opinion basis, i thought ola did enough but it was close. Bu i mean on a factual basis with the judges scorecards, if they didnt miss (or choose to miss) the clear knockdown then ola wouldve got the decision on the cards i believe

I wasn't meaning to argue with you, so my apologies if it came across that way. There's no arguing that he did enough to get the nod anyway; it was a fight that could have gone either way.

And I'm pretty sure you're right about the scorecards.
