It's brilliant you are still trying to improve Jeff! Never too late to learn.

I happen to think that Jersey Joe Walcott had one of the best footwork in HW history. Unfortunately I'm on the iPhone and it's a pain to upload links, but I'll try get some up tomorrow

Locche's feet are VERY subtle in terms of their relevance to his style but agreed, they work in perfect conjunction with his insane head/upper body reflexive work.

Fuji was a fucking demolition man by the way. Locche didn't give two fucks.

Not sure if its for yourself or certain pupils Jeff, but I think Flea perhaps hit the nail on the head. Just as there are many ways to skin a cat in an overall defensive set up,different set ups necessarily have differing requisite foot work. So I'd say that while studying any great defensive fighter can do no harm, the most relevant examples are determined by what you are aiming to achieve. Who is this for and what is their style?

I mean, Mike McCallum's a pretty good defensive fighter, but you wouldn't confuse his footwork with Bernard Hopkins, another good defensive fighter.

 yeah that's what's great about Locche, he looked so in control and had complete confidence in his ability

This is a good video for the Pacquaio-Marquez fight. It's really biased and it's not all about footwork but it has some great parts. 6.27 or so for the footwork section.

Good videos guys, they helped me a lot as well. Especially the Locche one :thumbsup

Watch Jose Napoles mate, he wasn't an out and out defensive fighter but if you're wanting to improve defensive footwork whilst maintaining your generalship in the center of the ring as opposed to moving excessively around it, then Jose Napoles is your man, or Bernard Hopkins. The footwork of Hopkins has been perfected, it's with scientists such as Hopkins that we can differentiate between great footwork and great mobility, for example Roy Jones was very mobile, but his footwork from a technical standpoint doesn't have shit on Bernard Hopkins, who was deceptive with it.

Anyway, Napoles and Hopkins are both exponents of complete footwork in my opinion, but if you're looking to just improve your lateral movement, side to side, then Luis Rodriguez is that guy to study imo, when he keeps it on the outside with his lateral and circular footwork, it's no contest, and that's against one of the all time greats
