I was a sensational puncher who flattened 65 opponents in my career. My career was interrupted when I joined the sevice in WW2, and was wounded
16 times, and was in a hospital for 6 months...I resumed my great ko streak until I was overmatched and kod by a soon to be heavyweight champion
and was never the same after...Who am I ?

So I think he should be the one, who comes up with the right man.

doug.ie, you are so close, that you win by a tko...It was Tommy Gomez of Tampa, Florida, a smallish heavyweight sensational puncher who knocked out 65 fighters ,winning 75 times...Gomez was an authentic war hero that was wounded 16 times in the Battle of the Bulge in WW2. He was in a French hospital for six months, recuperating from his wounds. After he was discharged Gomez resumed his career and kod about everyone he met
and was called by some,"the new Joe Louis ", until that fatal bout I saw with my dad at MSG in 1946 when he was kod by the rising veteran the 32 year old Jersey Joe Walcott. Gomez went downhill after that and Walcott became heavyweight champ years later....The hands of fate...
P.S. What a fight that would have been between Tommy Gomez and Rocky Marciano at that time !!! Both the exact same size, and I truly don't know who would have won a bout between them both at their bests...Similar styles....Take care doug...

Welcome aboard B...You are a gentleman and a scholar, and yes doug.ie is so darn close, as you know it....
Thanks, Burt.

Looks like the fellas here have started something good... you know, a place where we can have a civilized discussion, without being called "haters" or "nuthuggers" (or worse!) by som idiot trolls with an agenda. What a nice change that would be!
