Theres been quite a few on here who have been discrediting Mitchell as an opponent, saying this is a step back for Burns. So I thought I'd compare Mitchell with other Burns opponents, just to see if Mitchell would crack into the upper echelons of Ricky's resume.

Burns' resume:

He started off by widely out pointing and dominating the previously unbeaten Roman Martinez (who everyone thought would knock Ricky out). Martinez, however, hadn't really beaten anyone of note, and hasn't fought since.

His other world class opponent was the man who blew Mitchell away in 3 rounds, Michael Katsidis. Kats, by this point was very war torn, and was battered to a pulp by JMM and Guerrero before dropping a decision in Scotland.

Ricky has also dominated the very good Moses

In between these, we have the unspectacular opponents in Cook, Evensen and Laryea.

So how would Mitchell fit in here? Would he crack Ricky's top 3 wins? Does he push Martinez down? Do we bring up Kats' recent form and push him down? Or do Moses, Kats and Martinez stand above Kev?

For what it's worth, I think Mitchell gets in a number 3, behind Kats and Moses

I'd have him around 3 or 4 think Katsidis and Moses are ahead of him, but not by too much. I haven't seen Martinez fight apart from that Burns match so can't really judge but he hasn't beaten anyone better than Mitchell so I'd rank him just behind Mitchell at this stage

Martinez
Katsidis
Earl
Mitchell

Going to sort the top 3 in a bit, but that's the four wins i think are best on his resume if or when he beats Mitchell.

Reason i put Earl is because Ricky beat a guy who was on course for a world title shot when he was a novice, it was a massive upset at the time. He was chucked in similar to that kid against Harrison the other night. As a whipping boy, but instead beat the bully so to speak.

I completely forgot about Graham Earl :good as a fighter I still think Mitchell is superior, but it's a good addition to his resume no doubt.

I agree with @CamR21 on this. Mitchell just ahead of Martinez

In contrast, this will be Mitchell's biggest scalp of his career no doubt.

You can throw Earl in at second as well as for a good win but for legacy wise in the name stakes it doesn't really do that much. I put katsidis further down as he is completely shot to shit.

Personally I think Mitchell is massively overrated. Got destroyed by Katsidis and struggled with journeyman Lora. His win over Murray was decent as was the Johanneson but for me personally he has never really shown he can achieve anything over continental level at best. He is talented and this is his chance to prove me wrong on this point but I have never felt that his overhype has been warranted.

Don't think there can be a huge case for him being better than Martinez or Katsidis.

Moses is a bit of a toss up. Moses has probably done more on the world stage but Mitchell's win against Prescott was slightly more convincing than anything the Kenyan has done.

I was one of the few who actually favoured Burns to beat Katsidis, I could see that he was done after the Guerrero fight and was surprised so many were taking him over Burns, just like I'm surprised with people thinking Mitchell doesn't have much of a chance here.

I was heavily impressed with Burns performance over Martinez and still rate that as his best win, I would be surprised if Martinez doesn't go onto achieve anything more at world level. Moses was a very good test for Burns imo but still a fighter that I feel Mitchell can overtake with time, bearing in mind I'm actually taking Mitchell over Burns in this fight ;)
