I personally think Rigondeaux would win but there is some bias here. I reckon it'd be his hardest career fight though and Mares would do better than Donaire did.

Conversely I reckon Donaire sparks Mares.

Then what would each man need to do to flirt with that number 1 spot? Just continue beating top level fighters?

If Rigo gets wins over Terrazas, Leo Santa Cruz and Mares it'd be very easy to make a case for him being p4p1. Likewise if Mares beats say Rigo, Gary Russell and Mikey Garcia.

I think it's a winnable fight for both guys. I just see Rigo landing his counters consistently and lowering Mares' punch output to win a close decision.
