It's a tough one because he's surrounded by people who could potentially end his career, and there are few soft touches.

He needs time with Hunter, so I think the Senchanko fight is a fairly good, fairly low risk option.

Later in the year, how about a Prescott rematch?

It's dangerous but Khans respect amongst fans is at an all time low, so a win over Prescott could help with that.

Thoughts?

Lamont rematch, definitely.

If he wins he becomes a 'champion' again, rights a wrong in his eyes and Lamont isn't as big a puncher as Garcia or Matthysse. A Rios fight won't happen due to Top Rank-GDB feud. This should be the year for rematches, he needs to rebuild and three fights of Prescott, Lamont then Garcia. They go up in difficulty in that order, so it maximises the time Khan has with Hunter and could reclaim 3 belts with 3 wins and avenge all of his defeats.

Matthysse could fight Garcia and beat him first though...

March - Prescott
July - Lamont/Holt winner
Late 2013 - Garcia/Matthysse winner (if Matthysse beats Garcia then move up to 147 having reclaimed a title :deal)

He should fight Prescoot, Peterson and then Garcia. If he wins those then he can move up to WW. If not then he is off the radar and I don't think anyone will care for him anymore.

I think they will have him fight Lopez and Garcia this year and then move him up though for a Brook scrap.

Prescott rematch first, would be an easy win for Amir as long as he sticks to his boxing. Then a Maidana rematch, as long as Khan sticks to his boxing he'd win comfortably. Then probably Peterson rematch makes sense, this time with a non-roided Lamont, Khan would make him look silly. After that a unification fight with Danny Garcia, but only schedule it for 2 rounds just in case Garcia was to get lucky again. Then if Amir is still standing (why wouldn't he be?), I'd put him in with the John Ruiz (surely he's gotta be mandatory again by now?) for some vacant version of the WBA heavyweight title.

That's probably what I'd do.

Unless you're on PPV like Mayweather or Pacquiao you should fight three times a year. It wound me up last year when everyone was saying Froch "deserved" an easy fight when beating up Mack was the only thing punctuating a year after whitewashing Bute.

On topic, avenging all three losses is a very marketable path to redemption. However the Prescott defeat might be regarded as past its sell by date

Prescott/Sechenko ---> Peterson ---> Garcia

It will take a lot to return him to the esteem he was held in at the end of 2011 but this is a start.

Even if Khan was to "avenge" all those losses, being fair I think he'd have to give rubber matches to them all as well. Then rematch Maidana because it was close, rematch Kotelnik cuz he gave him a shot at his belt, Barrera cuz it was a joke. At 2 fights a year this might take a while..

I think he'd get away with re-matching Precott and Peterson unless they were controversial. I think with Garcia he would but I'd pick Garcia to KO him again and put an end to it anyway.

He should definitely go back after Peterson. In his own mind, he won that fight and Peterson 'cheated' so he doesn't think he needs it, but he was happy to take the rematch before. If nothing else, he gets a title back, he's back in there with a world-level opponent, dealing with relentless pressure again and it's a chance to show he's learnt from his mistakes, but against a guy with little natural power who isn't a massive threat to his career in terms of potentially getting knocked out again.

So yeah, I think that's the fight he should be targeting first after a 'tune-up' against the likes of Senchenko/Prescott/Joseito Lopez. Ultimately, he does need that Garcia rematch to redeem himself because it's a big-blotch on his regard and he won't be the top 140lber until he beats him (unless Garcia fights Matthysse and loses, but that's a far more dangerous fight for Khan so he needs to get that rematch in before Matthysse gets to him first). However, it's a huge risk and despite what the bookies think - I'm in agreement with what most fight fans seem to think, and that's that Garcia would probably stop him again.

I think Peterson is the fight to go for at the moment. It's definitely a rematch he SHOULD win and it'll be a major confidence booster for him. I don't think he should go anywhere near Danny Garcia though. Maybe the winner of Brook/Alexander to test welterweight, two guys he should beat

Lopez, Peterson/Holt and then Garcia/Matthysse this year. It's sink or swim for him, no point rebuilding, if he can't overcome his poor defence and chin now he never will.

What will actually happen: Theophane or someone that level in April (will b a good enough sell with all the "he ruined Garcia" bullshit), then someone like Lopez back in the US.
