Like I just said on the facebook page..

I don't think I'll ever really appreciate Calzaghe. The wins over Lacy and Kessler were good but his punch style (if anyone else tried to punch like that they'd get called up on it) and lack of big fights will always annoy me.

Overrated at the end of his career and when he first retired (people ranking him as the greatest Brit ever, for example), but now seems to be underrated by most IMO.

I remember a thread on ESB not long ago where people were justifying having Froch ranked above him...

Well I'd like to see you try and justify it then ;)
Robin Reid
Jean Pascal
Jermain Taylor
Andre Dirrell
Mikkel Kessler
Arthur Abraham
Glen Johnson
Andre Ward
Lucian Bute

>

Chris Eubank
Robin Reid
Richie Woodhall
Byron Mitchell
Jeff Lacy
Sakio Bika
Mikkel Kessler
Bernard Hopkins
Roy Jones Jr

And Froch hasn't retired yet.

Better set of fights, doesn't equal better fighter, for me at least. Froch was beaten by what could be considered a lesser version of Kessler than that which Calzaghe beat, and also Ward. If that was Froch's list of wins I'd be right with you.

I think you could argue that it was a better version of Kessler. He was fighting in his own country and had nearly 3 years more experience than the one that Calzaghe fought.

Calzaghe's record really isn't that far ahead IMO.

I guess your right, its a good old debatable point . And I wouldn't argue that Calzaghes is far ahead, but by the same rule I'd put the Lacy win in the same bracket as Froch's Bute win. Its possible Froch eclipses Joe in his next few fights, but not like IMO.
