When Amir Khan and Danny Garcia met in the ring two months ago, their fight was a unification bout, with Garcia holding the World Boxing Council's junior welterweight title and Khan having been reinstated as the World Boxing Association's beltholder due to Lamont Peterson's positive test for synthetic testosterone.

At the time, WBC President Jose Sulaiman said any unification wouldn't last for long, as the WBC has not recently allowed for its world title to be held alongside other sanctioning bodies' belts.

Garcia went on to beat Khan via technical knockout. Yet Garcia, about two months later, is still listed as both the WBC and WBA's 140-pound titleholder.

Sulaiman told BoxingScene.com on Monday that there's no specific deadline for Garcia to decide which belt he'll keep - but that such a decision must be made.

"We were not aware that Garcia was holding the WBA belt also, as the approval by
the WBC was conditioned to the irrevocable decision by the winner to decide which of the two belts he would exclusively keep," Sulaiman wrote via email. "We understood that he had kept only his WBC belt. If he has not done it, he better do it, as we would withdraw recognition of his title if he doesn't.

"We are contacting him through his exclusive promoter, Golden Boy. If he is keeping his other belt, he will not keep ours."

Though the World Boxing Council has not recently allowed for its world title to be held alongside other sanctioning bodies' belts, super middleweight champion Andre Ward has been the owner of both the WBC and World Boxing Association titles for nearly nine months now.

Ward captured the WBA belt in November 2009 when he beat Mikkel Kessler by technical decision in his first fight of the "Super Six" super middleweight tournament. He won the WBC belt in December when he topped Carl Froch in the tournament's finale. (Ward defended both titles this past Saturday, stopping Chad Dawson.)

The WBC will be looking into this, according to Jose Sulaiman, the sanctioning body's president, speaking via email to BoxingScene.com on Monday.

"As I am not informed about champion Ward's position, even after his recent great victory, we are already investigating for a decision to be taken within a time in accordance with the situation, as once again, I am not well informed," Sulaiman wrote.

Would make a statement if everyone in this position dumped the WBC title, eventually that will make it a 2nd tier belt and then hopefully it'll go away.
