N matter what happens tonight I think this is a fight that should happen. They have never really been in the same weight division for this to become relevant but there is an opening for this fight to happen no matter what goes down tonight. It's a real interesting fight and I'd love to see how it went down. i really hope this happens.

Wow, never, ever considered this.

Normally I'd say Cotto by ko, but going down in weight could be really interesting - it's definitely the best weight for the fight.

If JMM looks sharp still tonight, I think he could take it very close.

Cotto should be way too big but I just checked and interestingly they have the exact same height and reach. I'd expect Cotto to be nearly a stone heavier on fight night though so I'd imagine he'll just bully and beat down Marquez. There's the chance that making 147 again would drain Cotto too much but then it wouldn't be fun to watch if this was the case either.

Love the idea of this fight. I'd pick Cotto still but JMM has the tools to make it a very interesting fight.

Even though I really like both fighters, I wouldn't want to see this. Marquez just isn't cut out for 147 at all in my opinion. We saw that vs Mayweather and though he beat Pacquiao, Manny is not a true welterweight and the styles factor was more predominant in their fight.

Cotto though has always been a real welterweight in size and strength and add in his ability as a fighter, it would all just add up in favour of him for me. Cotto by KO if it were to happen

Agreed. It was more of a response to Roe's suggestion that Cotto would just bully JMM.
Providing he wasn't completely weight drained I think he would. I'm not saying any bigger fighter would, I just think someone of Cotto's level would be able to apply pressure well and would eventually wear him down.

I think it has the styles for a great fight. Cotto is an offensive fighter but he boxes behind a jab and applies thoughtful pressure and boxes well using good movement, he would have to force the pace so he would be create openings for Marquez to counter him and although smaller in weight/bulk I think Marquez is clever enough to pick his shots and stay on the move.

Cotto tends to slow down the line and aside from Pacquaio 3 (which was horrendous tactics and cost him the fight ultimately) Marquez tends to get stronger as it gets late so it would be interesting how they strategized for it.

great fight in the making imo and Cotto can easy make 147 as well imo, he only moved up as welterweight was stacked and he needed to rebuild at the time. His time at LMW has been virtually a disaster.

I don't think Cotto can make 147. Which is a shame as he's clearly not at his best at 154.

It would be a great match up of styles though. If they were both the same size I'd favour JMM but as Cotto would have at least 10lbs on him (I'm not sure on Cotto's weight fight night) it makes it more interesting. I'd probably go with Cotto for the size difference, but that's only if he can make the weight without draining himself too much.Which I doubt.
