The IBF have ordered Kell Brook to face Hector Saldivia on October 20 in a final eliminator for the mandatory position for the welterweight title at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield, live on Sky Sports.

Eddie Hearn "It was always our goal to secure mandatory position and now we are just one fight away from making that happen."

Are you really though Mr Hearn? Is there not another 5 eliminators to be fought first :think?

What a pointless fight, if this was Frank Warren everyone would complain, it's a backward step to Carson Jones. Eddie needs to be careful milking this guy fighting average fighters, we all know Brook is a hype job but at same time he should stick to his word and step him up like they said would happen.

What is the point of this fight, he either wins well against a average guy or he struggles again then what ?

Win or lose he come out of this much better fighting a top 10 guy not this dude.

I think that it is simply a case of Kell needing more confidence after the Jones fight. He feels the need to go in with 'a banger' and win comfortably. I am sure that this will deliver that.

So while I agree with the underlying spirit of your point, I think that Kell needs both another training camp (to work on the stuff that went so wrong against Jones) and a confidence-building win against an opponent he believes to be dangerous before stepping into a title fight.

This should be a fun fight, so I'm feeling in forgiving mood.

(And Saldivia is waaay better than many Warren opponents, including many of his 'champions'.)

What's the alternative?

Fight someone better in a fight which will get him no closer to a belt?

The alternative is to stick with the plan and go for a top 10 ranked fighter, a name that stands out. This was the plan after he beat Jones, it's now gone out the window because they know hes found his level, so Eddie will play it smart pick off average fighters and try slip into a fight worth millions at some point. Ive never rated Brook and the Jones fight proved his level imo.

Eddie/Matchroom have alot of power/money in Boxing and he could get Brook whatever title fight he wants because none would fear Brook, as for belts who honestly cares is so many in Boxing they becoe meaningless.

End of day Brook and Hearn in this for the money not looking to build any legacy. If he was he do a Froch demand the best fight the best and win some lose some but come out of with the respect of the Boxing fans.

All Brook is doing is following Khan, but in his defence he is now fighting the best, Brook is a cash cow the casuals seemed to have fallen for and believe in the hype so Hearn can keep putting him in fights like this.

He will not progress.

I think that the Jones fight proved that he was taking his talent a little for granted, so cut the odd corner in prep.

I see what you are saying, but it does seem that they want the champion after the Saldavia fight, so it might turn out to be harsh to predict a future of picking safe options!

I think your being very generous with Brook Simon. But i agree with your line
I think that it is simply a case of Kell needing more confidence after the Jones fight
but i think the key point here is it's his promoter that has lost the confidence not Brook himself. Brook comes across as a guy who is deluded so would not suffer from lack of confidence, Eddie on the other hand talked alot of shit and hyped Brook big time. The Jones fight knocked Hearns confidence in Brook more than anything.

I like Matchroom/Eddie ALOT, but he is pulling a FW here with Brook, i don't blame him i just wish he drop the bullshit talk and admit Kell has alot to prove now.

My point here is this fight is pointless, if he wins it proves nothing it's not going to show he can beat any of the top guys, and if he struggles it will only do more damage to his hype. I bet even Brook is bored put him in with a top fighter you will get a focused Brook imo.

It was the plan to squeeze the bout with Saldivia in between a November title fight before the bout with Carson Jones.

All slag Kell an Hearn off thread is it then.......So Kell wasn't well prepared, he gassed, took some big shots, showed all the things that he had been questioned by the likes of the cunts in this thread that have previously slagged Kell for....What the fuck do you all want? Kell to get his way to being in a number 1 spot and a title bout without a doubt, or just fuck everything he's done with the IBF and go fight some twat that is higher ranked just because you want to see him fight higher ranked fighters...Fuck off just fuck off you complete and total fucking wanker......Once he gets the strap, he will probs have a soft defence as is the norm after winning a belt, but then due to having the belt he WILL get the BIG fights you all crave......Fuck you all man seriously....And Khan fights the best, I'd love to see him come up to WW and fight any cunt of any regard and not get smashed to smithereens....Cant fucking wait till Kell annihilates that cunt......Fuck outa here.

I'm a big fan of Kell, I think he's extremely talented but has been complacent in the past. In this interview he says he used to do his own diet but has hired a nutritionist & someone for strength & conditioning work.

His conditioning & preparation let him down vs Jones but that fight did show he can take a shot & wont quit when the going gets tough. I think he'll look a million dollars against Saldivia.

I cant see Brook beating Alexander on his showing the Jones fight tbh. If you asked me a year a id have thought Kell would have won clearly, but since that time Kells flaws have been shown up and Alexander has looked excellent against Madiana at 147. Devon will certainly brings things to the table that Kell wont have seen before certainly.
